RN Staff Nurse, Full-time, SDC, with GI Call, EWCH, Murphy, NC

Job Summary A registered professional nurse employed by Erlanger Medical Center is responsible for direct and/or indirect care of the patient. Performs the functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of the patient receiving Same Day Surgery, Out-patient Medications/Procedures and/or Endoscopy services during his/her shift. Responsible for meeting the established standards of nursing practice for assigned patients, for managing supplies, medications and equipment in the department, and for promoting teamwork with physicians and personnel of other departments. Able to function independently with only occasional or limited supervision. Provides age appropriate care to assigned patients in the department. Must be self‑motivated, flexible to accommodate daily schedule changes, and able to provide on‑call coverage. Supports the Mission, Vision and Value Statements of Erlanger Medical Center and complies with DNV requirements as outlined by policies and procedures. Education Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program. Experience Must have thorough knowledge of the nursing process and be able to provide basic nursing care to patients. Preferred One year medical/surgical acute care experience, surgical or special procedure experience. Must display good communication skills and interview techniques. License/Certification/Registration Requirements Current, unrestricted North Carolina RN licensure or Multi‑State Nursing Compact Licensure. BLS completed prior to going to unit/department and maintained going forward. ACLS certification. North Carolina licensure or multistate licensure from a compact state must be obtained within three months of hire for non‑North Carolina residents. Departmental Responsibilities The RN provides direct and indirect care in the Same Day Care, which also includes the following areas: Endoscopy, Outpatient Infusion and Radiology. Reflects initiative, flexibility and responsibility indicative of professional expectation with a minimum of supervision. Complies with policies for infection control, employee health and exposure control, including hand washing, use of PPE and handling of specimens. Demonstrated professional responsibility and complies with personnel policy and procedures. Maintains a safe work environment, uses proper body mechanics, ergonomics and techniques to protect self and others from injury. Reports appropriate and accurate information to other care givers. Follows the chain of command. Keeps team members informed. Maintains patient confidentiality. Performs appropriate, accurate assessment of the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient prior to procedure. Develops appropriate patient plan of care, and provides care according to that plan. Provides age appropriate care to the child, adolescent, adult and geriatric population. Administers medications safely and accurately to the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient. Accurate and complete documentation of assessment, plan, intervention, and evaluation of care. Recovers patients from procedure and evaluates care provided. Transfers and positions patients safely. Demonstrates use of proper body alignment, side rails, brakes and other patient protection equipment. Individualizes preparation and responds according to physician, nurse or patient preference as needed.
