Be Here. Be Great. Working for a leader in the insurance industry means opportunity for you. Great American Insurance Group’s member companies are subsidiaries of American Financial Group. We combine a “small company” culture where your ideas will be heard with “big company” expertise to help you succeed. With over 30 specialty and property and casualty operations, there are always opportunities here to learn and grow. At Great American, we value and recognize the benefits derived when people with different backgrounds and experiences work together to achieve business results. Our goal is to create a workplace where all employees feel included, empowered, and enabled to perform at their best. American Financial Group, Inc. (NYSE/NASDAQ: AFG) is a holding company based in Cincinnati, Ohio and has been in business for more than four decades. Our insurance roots go back to the 1800’s with the founding of Great American Insurance Company in 1872. Today, through the operations of Great American Insurance Group, AFG is primarily engaged in property and casualty insurance (“P&C”), focusing on specialized commercial products for businesses. AFG’s purpose is to enable individuals and businesses to manage financial risk using insurance products and services tailored to meet their specific and ever‑changing risk exposures. AFG’s strategy is to allocate capital to insurance operations which management believes offers a competitive advantage or unique opportunities. The AFG Tax Division provides tax advice, analysis and planning services to the AFG family of companies and plays an integral role in all major transactions involving AFG and its subsidiaries. Within our department culture, we strive to grow and develop technical expertise, be technologically innovative, provide quality service, and maintain a strong team. In addition to transaction‑related planning and advice, the Tax Division is responsible for federal, state and local compliance and tax controversy resolution from audit through litigation. The Tax Technology Analyst will help modernize and support the tools, data, and processes used by the AFG Tax Division. This role blends a Tax Analyst position with hands‑on work in data preparation, reporting, workflow automation, and continuous process improvement to enable accurate, efficient, and well‑controlled tax compliance and planning. Specific areas of opportunity will be tailored based on experience and interest, including tax technology initiatives, reporting and analytics, and support for federal tax processes. This role is ideal for CPAs currently in public accounting who are looking to transition into a strategic in‑house tax role with exposure beyond compliance and offers a more predictable work schedule, or for a recent graduate seeking their first role in tax. Great American’s culture is built on connection, shared learning, and strong relationships. To support this, employees in this role are expected to be on‑site four days a week, with the flexibility to work one day remotely. Core in‑office days are Tuesday–Thursday, with the fourth day determined by business needs. Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities Partner with tax team members and leadership to identify opportunities to improve workflows through technology, standardization, and automation. Build and maintain recurring tax reporting deliverables (workbooks, dashboards, and standardized schedules) with a focus on accuracy, auditability, and usability. Support the development and implementation of tax technology initiatives (e.g., provision/compliance tools, data integrations, analytics dashboards, workflow solutions, and AI‑enabled productivity enhancements). Prepare federal, state and local tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and foreign entities. Support quarterly and year‑end tax calculations by maintaining consolidation schedules, improving data quality checks, and enhancing repeatable processes used for income tax accounting, tax returns, and estimated payments. Grow professionally and technically through self‑study, outside technical training courses, and internal GAI University courses. Create and maintain clear process documentation and controls for key tax data flows, enabling consistent execution and easier knowledge transfer across the team. Translate new tax rules into practical process and system updates (templates, data requirements, controls, and documentation) in partnership with tax technical reviewers. Conduct tax research in connection with current operations, new legislation, and proposed business transactions. Prepare federal, state and local tax returns for corporations, partnerships, and foreign entities. Complete quarterly tax calculations and consolidation schedules to support financial statement accounting for income taxes and the calculation of quarterly federal and state estimated tax payments. Work closely with subsidiary financial, investment, and management contacts to gather financial information necessary to provide tax advice. Job Requirements Bachelor’s degree in accounting, data analytics, or other related disciplines. 0 to 5 years of experience in a tax or technology field, with demonstrated interest in process improvement and automation. Experience with tax compliance and provision software, knowledge of Corptax is a plus. Strong Excel skills (data cleansing, lookups, pivot tables) and comfort improving repeatable work through automation (macros, Power Query, and/or similar tools). Organized and self‑directed, with the ability to manage multiple requests, prioritize effectively, and deliver reliable outputs on schedule. Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders and translate business needs into well‑defined data, reporting, or workflow requirements. Curiosity and a continuous‑learning mindset—willingness to learn new tools, improve existing processes, and build tax knowledge over time. Prior exposure to tax concepts (insurance, state and local, partnership, investments, and/or foreign) is helpful, but candidates with strong technology and data skills are encouraged to apply.
