The Patient Access Specialist II performs all functions of the PAS I while demonstrating increased independence and expertise in scheduling, insurance verification, and patient coordination. This position directly supports in-person patients at the front desk by managing check-in, scheduling needs, registration, insurance and financial processes.

Key responsibilities include maintaining collaborative team relationships with peers and colleagues to contribute to the working group's achievement of goals effectively, and to help foster a positive work environment. Protects confidentiality/privacy in verbal, written, and electronic forms of communication or information sharing. Communicates concerns in appropriate manner and in accordance with KANA policy. Ensures that all demographic and insurance information is communicated and properly enters into the electronic health record to provide prompt and accurate billing. Collects and records patient identification into the electronic health record including driver's license, social security card, CIB, etc. Responsible for coordination of benefits when more than one insurance carrier is presented. Appropriately distributes registration paperwork to patients and records in the electronic health record according to departmental procedures. Receives point of service payments at check-in before services are rendered. Understands and gives explanation regarding the sliding fee application. Refers all patients without insurance coverage or with questions to an Alternate Resource Specialist for resolution. Updates patient's demographic information. Provides release of information (ROI) and explains the release process to patients requesting records. Accepts completed ROIs, ensures they are completed properly and forward to the HIM department. Schedules appointments for patients who are present in person or call the clinic. Proactively identifies scheduling errors. Receives and prioritizes calls, faxes, and requests from patients. Routes information to the appropriate recipient in a timely manner. Works independently in front desk functions and resolve moderately complex patient needs while coordinating with billing and health staff.

Qualifications include high school diploma or equivalent required. Basic computer and data entry skills required. One-year experience working in a healthcare clinic, medical billing office, or customer service environment and/or demonstrated knowledge Electronic Health Records workflows, insurance verification, and medical terminology. Excellent customer service, organizational skills, attention to detail, problem solving skills, technical skills, and ability to multitask with a positive attitude in a fast-paced environment required.

KANA's standard work schedule is 37.5 working hours per week, consisting of 7.5 paid working hours per day plus a one-hour unpaid lunch break (8.5 hours on site per day).
