Postdoctoral Fellow

Job Description A Postdoctoral Fellowship is available beginning August 1st, 2026 to study the molecular and cellular mechanisms of HTLV-1-driven adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL). Being the only human cancer caused by a retrovirus, ATLL is a fatal disease with no effective therapy. Evidence is accumulating that ATLL diagnosed in North America and Japan may differ in their mutation patterns and in their anti-HTLV-1 host immune responses. We use patient samples, cell lines, and novel animal models to investigate the roles played by selected ATLL-driver mutations. A particular focus is on altered epigenetic regulation and rewiring of the regulatory network governing normal CD4+ T cell development and differentiation. We also characterize functional interactions between transformed ATLL T cells and host immunity. Responsibilities Conduct discovery research on the mechanisms of HTLV-1-driven ATLL. Use patient samples, cell lines, and animal models to investigate selected driver mutations. Study epigenetic regulation and regulatory networks in CD4+ T cells. Characterize interactions between ATLL T cells and host immunity. Qualifications Recent PhD or MD graduate with significant research experience. Proficiency in molecular biology techniques, including manipulation and analysis of gene expression in cultured and primary cells. Experience with cancer animal models. Knowledge of cellular immunology and/or computational skills desirable. First-authored publication(s) in peer-reviewed English-language journals demonstrating the capability to conduct discovery research. Ability to work independently, strong motivation for novel discoveries, and a strong work ethic. Benefits and Compensation Salary will be commensurate with experience.
