Assistant Professor of Biomedical Sciences Position Type: Full Time Faculty Search Type: Tenure Track - 30 days Division: Academic Affairs Location: Richmond Campus, Eastern Kentucky University Schedule: Full Time (37.5 hours per week) Job Summary The Department of Biological Sciences at Eastern Kentucky University is inviting applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor position, beginning in the Academic Year 2026–2027. The successful candidate will join a faculty of more than 20 full‑time members and will receive access to state‑of‑the‑art biomedical research facilities. Applicants should hold an earned Doctorate in Biology (Biomedical) or an equivalent field, or be ABD with a scheduled defense no later than May prior to a fall appointment. The position opens on 1 August 2026 and the review of applications begins 3 November 2025. Responsibilities Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Human Anatomy, Human Physiology, Introductory Cell and Molecular Biology, and, where expertise allows, courses that integrate histology, immunology, epidemiology, virology, and career preparation. Maintain a full‑time teaching load of 4/4 courses per year, using effective and innovative instructional methods and varied assessment strategies. Establish and sustain an active research program in anatomy, physiology, or related biomedical fields, pursuing extramural funding from regional and national agencies. Mentor undergraduate and master’s students in research projects and academic development. Participate in departmental and university service as required, including lab coordination and collaborative initiatives. Apply for and manage research grants, ethical approvals, and budgets in accordance with institutional policies. Engage in professional development, including knowledge of artificial‑intelligence applications relevant to biomedical research and instruction. Qualifications Education: Earned Doctorate in Biology (Biomedical) or a related field from an accredited institution; ABD status considered with scheduled doctoral defense before Fall appointment. Experience: Knowledge of professional communication practices and social media; effective interpersonal communication; strong oral and written communication; analytical and problem‑solving skills; active listening; collaboration with peers and students; understanding of current trends in professional communication. Preferred Experience: Teaching biological concepts at the college or university level; evidence of active engagement in scientific research at the doctoral level; evidence of potential for academic publishing and professional contributions. Ability to demonstrate willingness and ability to collaborate with colleagues and support the mission of EKU. Other Information Visa sponsorship may be considered for suitable candidates.
