UI/UX Designer Sr. Principal

Senior UI/UX design leadership role in Indiana, focused on human-centered design, UX research, and building accessible, compliant interfaces.

Responsibilities

• Provide subject matter expertise in UX design using Human-Centered Design and design thinking methods (user research, personas, journey mapping, prototyping, mockups, usability evaluation).
• Develop and deliver a User Experience (UX) Research Plan and Outcomes for each use case, including goals, anticipated outcomes, research questions, hypotheses, methodology, recruiting needs, synthesis, and next steps.
• Facilitate discovery activities: generative research with users and business stakeholders, assessment of current related features, content review, information architecture review, accessibility review, and business process review.
• Collect and incorporate available data and analytics ; produce a User Experience Research Checklist .
• Partner with Product Teams to ensure a new tool or service fits the existing structure.
• Lead UI design and development support across applications, ensuring interfaces are visually appealing, user-friendly, and efficient.
• Create clear, actionable interface design specifications for development teams.
• Design dynamic forms and complex UI components, including rich cards and drag & drop features.
• Define and maintain UX frameworks and templates that developers can use during coding.
• Translate research insights into product functionality descriptions, including epics, user stories, and operational/business/functional/technical/data/integration requirements.
• Support design synthesis activities, generating insights and improvement opportunities.
• Communicate research findings using formats such as insight reports, stories, videos, and storyboards.
• Perform requirements analysis based on UX research, gathering stakeholder input from internal and external users.
• Develop user personas reflecting user types, wants, and needs.
• Create customer and user journey maps and capture related data.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners (product owners, developers, other designers).
• Run usability testing sessions, incorporate feedback, and refine designs.
• Write and edit plain language content for development teams.
• Design, test, and deliver low- and high-fidelity wireframes, prototypes, and interactive web forms; update them for collaboration, usability testing, facilitated demos, and iterative improvements.
• Lead user testing sessions and conduct thorough analysis to inform design improvements.
• Establish and uphold design standards across project components; support seamless UI/UX integration.
• Work with ReactJS, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and Tailwind to develop and refine user interfaces.
• Design within a micro-service architecture to support scalable and maintainable solutions.

Requirements

• MA/MS plus 10+ years general experience and 8+ years specialized experience.
• Alternative experience ranges: HS (16+ years), AA/AS (14+ years), BA/BS (12+ years), Doctorate Degree/Ph.D. (9+ years).
• Familiarity with front-end development, including ReactJS and JavaScript .
• Familiarity with UX, information architecture, content strategy, and user-centered design best practices.
• Experience designing software aligned to strategic business needs and goals.
• Experience conducting research for advanced technologies to determine how IT can support business needs using software, hardware, or infrastructure.
• Experience with Figma (or related design tools).
• Experience using usability testing tools .
• Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
• Strong communication skills for articulating design concepts and decisions to stakeholders.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Proven record delivering scalable and reliable software solutions.
• Portfolio demonstrating UI/UX expertise and relevant projects.
• Proven experience designing dynamic forms with an emphasis on intuitive UX and efficient design.
• Extensive experience creating CSS cards and drag & drop functionality.
• Experience with UX strategy and research methods (user interviews, surveys, usability studies), building personas, user journey maps, and empathy maps.
• UX analysis experience including competitive analysis, market assessments, and heuristic evaluations.
• Experience using user feedback to guide UX improvements and design decisions.
• Extensive hands‑on experience developing and testing wireframes and prototypes.
• Detailed knowledge of Section 508 requirements and experience designing 508‑compliant interfaces.
• Background defining and maintaining design standards.
• Experience working with Jira and Confluence for work item tracking and documentation.
• Experience in agile environments with knowledge of SAFe and Agile methodologies.
• Excellent oral and written presentation and communication skills.
• Consultant mindset with experience collaborating with high‑level customer stakeholders and building relationships.
• Experience identifying and applying industry tools, solutions, methods, and emerging technologies.
• Strong analytical skills to formulate and communicate recommendations for improvement.
• Experience with process design and documentation methodologies, including design/production of quality deliverables, process/use case modeling, and business case development.
• Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team.
• Strong project management, leadership, and meeting facilitation skills with knowledge of the Project Life Cycle.
