Portable Life Support System (PLSS) Project/Test Engineer

Portable Life Support System (PLSS) Project/Test Engineer This role partners with Aerodyne Industries to design, develop, test, and certify EVA spacesuit PLSS hardware for NASA’s deep space exploration programs. Responsibilities Perform project engineering functions for PLSS design, development, procurement, manufacture, test, and certification. Analyze customer requirements and develop design solutions in a team environment. Collaborate with PLSS leadership to update plans and agreements for work scope. Design, assemble, and test PLSS test configurations, and analyze test results. Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues identified during testing and integration. Review engineering drawings, requirements, and system specifications to ensure compliance with NASA standards. Contribute to documentation, including test reports, hazard analyses, design reviews, procedures, and TPS creation and execution. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field (BS from an accredited engineering school). Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a team environment. Proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency may be required. Ability to complete a U.S. government background investigation. Preferred Experience and Knowledge Detailed knowledge of vent loop gas flow rates, pressure management, and PLSS outlet CO₂ control in closed and open loop modes; familiarity with xEMU design goals and vent loop component functionality. Experience with thermal control and auxiliary thermal loops, including heat removal capabilities, pressures, flow rates, material compatibility, and manufacturing history. Experience with pressure systems—relief valves, pressure transducers, flow meters—and calibration processes. Physical Requirements Requires sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of time). Equipment and Machines Standard office equipment such as PC, telephone, printer, etc. Attendance Regular attendance in accordance with the established work schedule is critical. Ability to work outside normal hours and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
