Job Overview The Community Volunteer Engagement Senior Specialist mobilizes regional teams of volunteers to deliver impactful mission across Red Cross lines of service. This role will grow local community volunteer capacity and design new volunteer opportunities to meet mission, community, and evolving volunteer needs. This person will work as a player/coach directly engaging volunteers in their assigned jurisdictions and supporting volunteers and volunteer specialists across the region to meet mission needs in their areas. Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations. Salary range (CA): $70,800‑$75,500/yr. Salary may be adjusted based on geographic location, skills, experience and comparison to other employees. This position is not eligible for relocation assistance. Requires regional travel (40-50%) and 3 days a week in office. Key Responsibilities Manage the Community Volunteer Workforce: Grow the community volunteer capacity, engage external partners and the community to meet local needs for community-based programming including preparedness programs, restoring family links, veteran services and other regionally approved services. Liaise with community programming leads to understand and meet workforce needs. Community Services Volunteer management. Create visibility and engagement of internal volunteers, youth groups, and partners in chapter opportunities. Opportunity Design: Design and share new and non-traditional volunteer opportunity types to mobilize the community. Manage the Volunteer Service workforce systems and processes to ensure recurrent and one-time community services are staffed fully. Serve as a subject matter expert in the design of volunteer opportunities to best meet the needs of the community, organization and volunteer. Continuous Improvement: Support organizational learning and adoption of new and non-traditional volunteer opportunities with line of business. Data and reporting on Community Services volunteer impact. Program and process improvement. Volunteer and Employee Matrixed Management: Directly lead teams of volunteers locally and regionally. Support peers across the region who may lead local community volunteer teams. Scope: Individual contributor fully proficient in applying subject matter knowledge; works independently; may instruct or coach other professionals. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Experience: Minimum of 5 years of related experience. Management Experience: N/A (cannot substitute). Skills & Abilities: Ability to work on a team; excellent oral and written communication; strong interpersonal and presentation skills; good organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple evolving priorities; intermediate proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); knowledge of group dynamics, customer maintenance techniques, negotiation skills, and ability to effectively implement programs preferred. Travel: Travel may be required. Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equal the described minimum education and experience; management experience cannot be substituted. Preferred Qualifications Experience in volunteer management and team development skills highly preferred. Familiarity with volunteer engagement models and workforce development best practices. Ability to work within matrix environments and manage ambiguity. Experience in non-profit or mission-driven organizations preferred. Ability to translate requests and ideas into actionable plans and processes. Strong collaborator who builds trust, drives cross‑functional alignment, and communicates effectively with diverse stakeholders. Solution oriented, with knack for resolving complex challenges, and delivering outcomes. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (e.g. business office with computers, phones, printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
