Town of Stevensville -Public Works Assistant

GENERAL PURPOSE

The Town of Stevensville Public Works Assistant provides support for parks, trees, weeds, cemeteries, streets, and the town swimming pool. The role also helps with maintenance and operations tied to water and wastewater services, including assisting with water treatment and well operations, wastewater operations, and supporting maintenance of water and sewer mains. The position performs a variety of technical and hands-on tasks within assigned areas of responsibility to help keep town facilities safe, clean, and operating as expected.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs skilled maintenance work and assists in operating specialized automotive and maintenance equipment, along with other departmental equipment. Supports park, tree, weed, cemetery, street, water, and wastewater maintenance and repair activities to maintain town services and infrastructure. Assists in implementing department goals and objectives; identifies maintenance needs and problem areas; helps provide timely, quality park and public works services. Helps support park, cemetery, road, water, and wastewater repair and maintenance projects. Selects and uses appropriate equipment and materials to complete assigned work according to specifications, written and/or verbal instructions, and established procedures. Adapts equipment and materials to meet the needs of specific tasks. Uses hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. Assists with communication and coordination with team members to complete work efficiently and safely. Operates assigned equipment as needed, including some heavy equipment, and drives town vehicles. Performs work that requires good depth perception and visual inspection of areas for safety. Walks distances on uneven ground, lifts 50 pounds or more, and climbs ladders as required by assigned tasks. Performs general maintenance work within parks, cemeteries, public works facilities, and on public works vehicles. Assists with snow removal operations as needed.
