Job Summary:
The Radiation Therapist applies ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist.

Job Responsibilities:
- Accurately deliver the planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision.
- Verify patient information and prepare the treatment room and equipment.
- Monitor patient's condition while undergoing treatment, recognize signs of treatment complications, and alert the physician or nurse if needed.
- Explain procedures to patients, the means of communication during treatment, and procedures to follow if emergencies arise during treatment.
- Reinforce the Radiation Oncologist's advice regarding reactions to treatment and care.
- Perform quality assurance checks on all treatment plans prior to treatment.
- Perform image fusion daily on patient treatment (when applicable), verifying the planned treatment field matches the area of interest.
- Perform custom immobilization through the fabrication of patient-specific immobilization devices to accurately align patients for daily radiation therapy.
- Follow principles of radiation protection for patient, self, and others.
- Conduct daily quality assurance checks on radiation delivery equipment.

- BLS - AHA

Education:
- Required: High School Diploma or GED.

Required Certifications & Licensure:
- BLS - AHA.
- Licensed Radiologic Technologist - Radiation Therapy - Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA).
- Registered in Radiation Therapy (T) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
