Head Athletic TrainerIndian River State College is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Athletic Trainer to lead the athletic healthcare services for our collegiate student-athletes. This position oversees injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, medical clearances, and return-to-play protocols while collaborating with coaches, physicians, and athletic staff to support athlete health, safety, and performance. The ideal candidate is a certified athletic training professional who thrives in a team-oriented collegiate environment and is committed to promoting student-athlete success both on and off the field.JOB SUMMARY:Under general supervision, this position works closely with the Athletic Director to oversee all organizational and athletic training aspects of the collegiate teams. Responsibilities include developing, implementing and modifying athletic training policies and procedures. Instruct student-athletes on injury care, prevention and rehabilitation methods for existing injuries. Establish and maintain a relationship with a local physician to ensure timely care for athlete's needs. Work flexible and fluctuating hours and responsibilities across various functional areas within the institution as required.SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and implement athletic training services within the Indian River State College athletic department.Represent the college at State, regional, and national meetings.Manage initial athletic clearance, including medical forms, insurance information and pre-participation physicals prior to athlete being allowed to participate with his/her athletic team.Educate student -athletes on injury and illness evaluation, rehabilitation and appropriate physician referrals.Instruct student athletes on injury prevention and on rehabilitative methodologies.Provide treatment and apply therapeutic modalities, taping, bracing, and splinting/casting.Establish and maintain relationships with orthopedic and general practice physicians to enhance medical care for student-athletes.Work under the direction of the supervising physician.Schedule and accompany student-athletes to medical appointments as needed.Communicate with physicians and coaches regarding student-athlete injury and participation status.Maintain and inventory supplies biannually.Keep daily progress notes and additional records of communication with physicians, teachers, and parents.File insurance claims related to athletic injuries.Oversee and schedule the department's drug testing program with a third-party contractor.Cover all home athletic events and tournaments sponsored by the college.Travel to away athletic events as schedule permits.Supervise students interested in pursuing a degree in athletic training.Driving duties as assigned.Collaborate with the team to support student success, retention, and completion.Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:Bachelor's degree in athletic training, Master's degree in Athletic Training preferred;Two (2) years Minimum of two (2) years of proven athletic training experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer; preferably in a collegiate setting.Current Proof of certification by the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Board of Certification (BOC);Basic Life Support (BLS) certification;Florida State Licensure or eligibility of receiving licensing within 60 days of date of hire;Familiarity with NJCAA governing rules;Valid Florida driver's licenseExcellent leadership, organizational, and efficiency skills;Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, specifically related to athletic training policies and procedures; and to work within a state ranked program;Ability to maintain strict accuracy and be detail oriented;Ability, technical skills, and proven knowledge to work with elite collegiate athletes;Motivated self-starter with high character, and integrityAbility to work independently as well as with others;Proven experience with Microsoft Office and Windows based applications;PHYSICAL DEMANDS:This position classifies the physical exertion requirements as medium work involving lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds in addition to standing or sitting for extended periods of time. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
