Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to join our Progressive Care Unit (PCU) team in Hilo, Hawaii. This 15-bed unit provides specialized care for patients requiring close monitoring, including a 3-bed Step-down ICU and 12 telemetry beds. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care within a dynamic acute care setting.

In this role, you will manage a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels, maintaining nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4 in the Progressive Care area and 1:3 in the Step-down ICU. You will be responsible for comprehensive primary nursing care, continuous cardiac monitoring, and other essential clinical duties, contributing to positive patient outcomes in a supportive environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary nursing care to a diverse patient population.
• Perform continuous telemetry monitoring and accurate interpretation of telemetry strips.
• Conduct regular fingerstick blood sugar assessments and manage related interventions.
• Administer medications safely and efficiently using automated dispensing systems.
• Utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems for accurate and timely documentation.
• Float to other acute care units as needed, including Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Emergency Room (ER).

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year of recent (within the last year) acute care hospital experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) setting.
• Telemetry experience.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in Meditech charting system.
• Competence with Pyxis automated medication dispensing system.
• Experience operating medical equipment such as BIPAP and continuous cardiac monitoring systems.
• Strong critical thinking, assessment, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective team collaboration and patient interaction.
• Ability to adapt to varying patient acuities and unit demands.

• Days per Week: Typically 5 days per week
• Weekly Hours: Scheduled 36 hours per week following the first week of orientation.

Licensing Requirements
