Job Description

The Warehouse Associate plays a key role in safely handling and moving structural steel materials within a busy distribution center. In this position, you operate an overhead crane to lift, move, and position loads, ensuring they are properly secured and within safe lifting limits. You maintain a clean and well-functioning crane, track inventory within your assigned bay, and load customer trucks based on order sheets. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on work in a warehouse environment and is interested in learning or expanding heavy equipment operating skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate an overhead crane to lift, move, and accurately position structural steel loads within the warehouse.

• Verify that all loads are safely attached, balanced, and within the crane’s lifting limits before and during movement.

• Load the beds of customer semi-trucks with structural steel beams according to order sheets and shipping requirements.

• Track and manage inventory within your assigned bay, ensuring materials are correctly labeled, stored, and accounted for.

• Use warehouse equipment such as forklifts and electric pallet jacks to handle, move, and organize materials as needed.

• Maintain the crane and related equipment in clean and good working condition, reporting any issues or needed repairs promptly.

• Follow established safety procedures and warehouse protocols to prevent accidents and protect coworkers and equipment.

• Support general warehouse operations, including material handling, order picking, and staging products for shipment.

• Use RF scanners or similar devices to scan, track, and update inventory and order information accurately.

• Collaborate with a small team of 2–3 people to meet daily productivity, quality, and safety goals.

Essential Skills

• At least 6 months of experience operating a forklift, including sit-down, stand-up, or high-reach models.

• At least 6 months of experience operating heavy equipment in a warehouse or similar environment.

• At least 6 months of general warehouse experience, including material handling and order picking.

• Ability to operate equipment safely in a warehouse space, such as forklifts or electric pallet jacks.

• Comfort working in a fast-paced, industrial warehouse environment handling metal and structural steel products.

• Basic ability to read and follow order sheets to ensure accurate loading of customer trucks.

• Attention to detail and strong focus on safety when lifting, moving, and positioning heavy loads.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior experience operating an overhead crane in a warehouse or industrial setting.

• Any previous heavy equipment operating experience beyond forklifts, such as cranes or similar machinery.

• Experience using RF scanners for inventory tracking and order processing.

• Willingness to learn new equipment and processes, including overhead crane operation.

• Ability to work effectively in a small team environment and communicate clearly with coworkers and drivers.

Work Environment

You work in a metal distribution center that, while not temperature controlled, is kept relatively clean and organized for an industrial setting. The indoor temperature generally mirrors outdoor conditions due to trucks driving in and out throughout the day, so you should be comfortable working in varying weather. Operations run on two shifts: 1st Shift from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM and 2nd Shift from 4:00 PM to 11:30 PM. You join a small team of 2–3 people, allowing for close collaboration and clear communication. Typical technologies and equipment include overhead cranes, forklifts, electric pallet jacks, and RF scanners. The dress code requires steel-toed boots, jeans, and a work shirt, suitable for a hands-on warehouse and heavy equipment environment

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Omaha, NE.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
