Job Description The Arts and Humanities Division offers programs in Art + Design, Communication Studies, Digital Media, English, World Languages, History, Interactive Media Production, Music, Philosophy, and Theatre, including WHFC Radio Station, Owl Media, LaCalle Chesapeake Gallery, and community performances. The Assistant Dean of Arts and Humanities supports the dean in providing administrative management and leadership in the division and furthering the college’s academic mission and direction. Primary responsibilities include supervision of part‑time support staff, managing division logistics for dual enrollment, adjunct support, and working closely with faculty and staff to support initiatives, assessment, and curriculum development to foster student success. Duties Support of the Division Dean: conduct research, implement best practices, plan assessment/tracking initiatives related to curriculum and program development, enhance student learning, and complete other special projects. Assist in developing the annual course schedule in alignment with program plans to support student progression. Manage and track the division’s dual enrollment initiatives, including scheduling, support for all teaching dual enrollment sections, relevant professional development, dual enrollment observations, and collaboration with Academic and Student Affairs. Assist in monitoring faculty and adjunct loads, tracking enrollment, and making class cancellation recommendations prior to each semester. Collaborate with faculty to modify, assess, and develop courses and programs; review articulation agreements. Monitor assessment and review of all courses and support the program review process. Generate reports and provide data analyses to inform decision‑making. Represent the division on internal and/or external committees as needed. Other duties assigned. Support of Division Adjuncts Manage adjunct applicant pool, coordinate advertising and applicant evaluation, and oversee the hiring process. Oversee onboarding and training of new adjuncts with faculty and HR. Assign adjunct teaching schedules based on staffing needs. Conduct and coordinate classroom observations, provide ongoing professional development, address student concerns, and ensure adjunct support. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Education: Master’s degree in one of the Arts and Humanities disciplines. Experience: 3 years of college‑level teaching in an Arts and Humanities discipline; 1 year of successful leadership in higher education. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Experience in assessment and improvement of instruction and curriculum. Strong program and project management skills. Knowledge of high‑impact educational practices and inclusive teaching strategies. Ability to promote use of technology for instructional delivery in face‑to‑face and online settings. Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, with intermediate skills in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Qualifications 5 years of college teaching in an Arts and Humanities discipline. Prior community college experience. Experience with dual enrollment initiatives. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel. Experience with Banner and/or Brightspace LMS. Work Schedule Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Final schedule determined by supervisor). Some external events may require evening or Saturday work. Hours: 40–100%.
