Learning & Development Specialist (Seagoing)

The Gig:

The Learning & Development Specialist brings learning to life onboard through engaging, practical training. The role delivers onboarding, brand and service training, and career development programs according to the priorities and schedule set by the Training & Development Manager.

The Specialist strengthens the facilitation skills of departmental trainers, coordinates learning communications, and maintains accurate training records and reporting.

As a specialist individual contributor, the role combines strong facilitation with reliable follow-through. The Specialist shares training data, observations, and insights from day-to-day shipboard activity with their leaders and shoreside Learn & Grow to help identify needs and improve learning.

What You'll be Up To:

• Facilitate live, in-person training for Crew and leaders, including onboarding programs and career development programs, in line with Learn & Grow facilitation standards.
• Execute and coordinate onboarding for new Crew, delivering brand and service training and coordinating the safety components with the responsible departments.
• Run training labs and hands-on practice sessions that help Crew apply what they have learned.
• Administer development programs, including enrollment, scheduling, materials, attendance, completion, and records.
• Coordinate desktop and digital eLearning platforms, including assigning and tracking learning, supporting Crew access, and resolving routine issues.
• Train departmental trainers on effective facilitation techniques, supporting the Certified Departmental Trainer program as directed by the Training & Development Manager.
• Collect and analyze training data, such as completion, assessment results, and participant feedback, and report on the effectiveness of training programs to the Training & Development Manager.
• Execute the learning and development internal communications strategy, including announcements, program promotion, and reminders for Crew and leaders.
• Share observations from sessions and the floor with the Training & Development Manager to inform needs analysis and feedback to shoreside Learn & Grow.
• Supports with auditing mandatory safety, environmental, and public health compliance training records.
• Responsible for complying with and performing Safety/Environmental/Emergency Response duties as assigned.
• Reads and acknowledges documents as assigned in VMS (Virgin Management System).
• Consistently maintains STCW and/or any other required certifications as described in the training matrix.

Superpowers Required:

• Minimum 2 years' experience in a dedicated Learning & Development role, with responsibilities spanning facilitation, learning program administration, and reporting on training results..
• Demonstrated expertise in applying adult learning principles to facilitate onboarding and development programs for employees and leaders, including practical demonstrations, structured practice, feedback, and checks for understanding.
• Experience creating post-training reinforcement activities and resources that help learners retain and apply new skills on the job.
• Experience coaching trainers and subject matter experts on facilitation techniques, learner engagement, and effective delivery.
• Experience coordinating learning programs and eLearning platforms, including scheduling, materials, assignments, attendance, completion tracking, and accurate recordkeeping.
• Experience collecting and reviewing completion data, assessment results, and participant feedback, and presenting findings in clear reports.
• Experience writing clear internal communications that promote programs and keep learners informed.
• Experience adapting learning for multilingual and culturally diverse audiences.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Passion for Crew development and inclusive learning environments

Preferred:

• L&D experience in cruise, hospitality, or another operational environment.
• A relevant qualification or professional certification in Learning & Development, adult education, or workplace training.
