Staff AccountantLocation: Trussville, AL Schedule: Fully Onsite Employment Type: Direct Hire Compensation: $60,000–$80,000 + bonusPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Staff Accountant to join our accounting team in a hands-on, process-focused role with significant responsibility for fixed assets, CapEx, prepaids, reconciliations, month-end close, and ERP accounting. This position is ideal for an early-career accounting professional who enjoys improving processes, solving problems, and taking ownership of their work.The Staff Accountant will work closely with accounting leadership and upper management, including ownership of fixed asset budgeting and planning. The role also provides exposure to audits, cost accounting, operational accounting, and process improvement, with a strong opportunity for career advancement to a Senior Accountant within approximately two years based on performance and development.Key ResponsibilitiesManage fixed asset accounting, including loaned equipment and CapEx activityMaintain and reconcile fixed asset and prepaid accounts as part of the month-end closePrepare journal entries and perform subledger accountingComplete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate discrepanciesManage prepaids related to contracts, agreements, and operating expensesMonitor accounts throughout the month and make necessary ledger correctionsPerform budget variance analysis and identify trends or discrepanciesOwn fixed asset budgeting and planning, including direct communication with upper managementUtilize ERP systems to maintain accurate accounting records and improve processesParticipate heavily in the annual audit process, including coordinating and managing information requestsProvide support with cost accounting activitiesAssist an internal service department with operational accounting needs, including billing, receiving, and reconciliationsIdentify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and efficienciesSupport month-end and year-end close activities while ensuring compliance with GAAPTake ownership of assigned accounting processes and contribute to ongoing process improvementsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required1–4 years of accounting experienceExperience with fixed assets and general accounting requiredExperience with month-end close and balance sheet reconciliationsStrong understanding of GAAPExperience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysisAudit experience requiredSome cost accounting experience preferredExperience working with an ERP system required; JDE preferredAdvanced Excel skillsStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to analyze issues, identify discrepancies, and develop practical solutionsComfortable working independently while collaborating with accounting and operational teamsIdeal CandidateThe ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys owning processes rather than simply processing transactions.
