The PhARM Program is an interdisciplinary research and implementation science team focused on improving access to evidence-based treatment for substance use disorders (SUD), including opioid use disorder (OUD). The successful applicant will contribute their expertise and familiarity with the local resource environment to support a new medication access initiative. ADOPT-MOUD is a structured implementation project designed to improve access to buprenorphine for people with OUD through peer navigation, pharmacy technical assistance, and academic detailing initiatives. The Research Engineering/Scientist Associate III - Academic Detailer will support both patient-facing peer navigation services and pharmacy-facing academic detailing activities. This includes serving as a primary point of contact for patients who are unable to obtain their buprenorphine prescriptions in a community pharmacy, assisting them in navigating pharmacy-related barriers, coordinating resolution of dispensing issues with pharmacies and prescribers, and facilitating successful medication access. In addition, the position will conduct academic detailing visits to community pharmacies, provide evidence-based education and technical assistance related to OUD pharmacotherapy, and support implementation of best practices to improve medication access. The position will also support documentation of intervention activities, data collection for program evaluation, and preparation reports, presentations, and other dissemination products as needed. Responsibilities Work closely with a team of peer recovery support specialists to address barriers to buprenorphine access in community pharmacies. Contact pharmacies to clarify dispensing barriers, facilitate problem-solving, and support resolution of prescription access issues. Coordinate with pharmacists and prescribers to support successful transfer or re-issuance of buprenorphine prescriptions when needed. Work with a team of recovery support peer specialists to document all patient encounters, including barriers identified, actions taken, and resolution outcomes, using a secure data collection system. Conduct follow-up communication with patients to support continuity of buprenorphine treatment and assess ongoing barriers to access. Provide structured academic detailing support to community pharmacies, including delivery of evidence-based education on opioid use disorder and buprenorphine pharmacotherapy. Distribute and review implementation materials, including practice guidelines, patient support tools, and continuing education resources. Participate in technical assistance calls with pharmacy staff to identify and troubleshoot operational and workflow barriers to buprenorphine dispensing. Maintain fidelity to standardized intervention protocols, including use of scripts, decision trees, and documentation procedures. Collaborate with research and pharmacy team members to ensure coordinated delivery of peer navigation, technical assistance, and academic detailing components. Contribute to data collection activities supporting program evaluation and implementation research objectives. Participate in training, supervision, and regular team meetings to support quality assurance and protocol adherence. Assist with preparation of reports, presentations, and dissemination materials as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Current certification as a Peer Recovery Support Specialist (PRSS), Recovery Support Peer Specialist (RSPS), or Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC). Minimum of 2-3 years of experience providing recovery support services, care navigation, or related roles supporting people with SUD. Demonstrated ability to engage people with SUD in a respectful, trauma-informed, and recovery-oriented manner. Experience communicating with healthcare systems (e.g., pharmacies, clinics, or prescribers) in a patient advocacy or navigation capacity. Strong communication skills with ability to engage effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple field-based assignments. Experience with data entry, documentation, or structured reporting systems. Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to structured protocols. Ability to travel to community pharmacy sites within Central Texas. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, health sciences, or related field. Experience providing peer navigation services related to medications for OUD. Experience working with community pharmacies or knowledge of pharmacy workflows. Familiarity with OUD treatment and recovery support services. Experience working in grant-funded programs, research studies, or implementation initiatives. Salary Range 62,000-$66,000 depending on qualifications. Working Conditions Flexible work arrangements with partial remote eligibility depending on project needs. Open office environment.
