Research Accountant

Position Title : Research Accountant Department : 6600|SPFAC Responsibilities : Position Summary The Research Accountant is responsible for the financialadministration, monitoring, and reporting of externally funded grants,contracts, and sponsored projects. This position ensures compliance withfederal, state, local, and private sponsor regulations while providingfinancial guidance and support to principal investigators, project directors,and departmental staff. The Research Accountant manages post-award accountingactivities, financial reporting, budget analysis, and grant reconciliation toensure the accurate stewardship of sponsored funds. Monitorand manage the financial activities of sponsored programs, grants, andcontracts. Prepareand submit financial reports, invoices, reimbursement requests, andsponsor billings in accordance with award terms and deadlines. Performaccount reconciliations and analyze budget-to-actual expenditures. Assistprincipal investigators and project directors with budget management andfinancial planning. Prepare,review, and process grant-related journal entries, cost transfers, andbudget amendments. Ensurecompliance with federal regulations, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFRPart 200), agency-specific requirements, and institutional policies. Coordinatecost-sharing documentation and indirect cost allocations as required. Supportgrant closeout activities, including final financial reporting andreconciliation. Collaboratewith auditors and provide documentation for internal and external audits. Maintainaccurate financial records and grant documentation. Providetraining and guidance to departments regarding sponsored project financialmanagement. Identifyand resolve financial discrepancies, compliance issues, and reportingconcerns. Performother duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned tosupport the financial management of sponsored programs and the overallobjectives of the Finance and Research Administration departments. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Education -Bachelor’sdegree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related fieldrequired. Experience

• Minimumof 3 years of accounting experience, preferably in grant accounting,sponsored programs administration, higher education, healthcare,nonprofit, or government environments.
• Experiencemanaging federally funded grants and contracts preferred.
• Knowledgeof post-award grant administration and financial reporting requirements.

• Strongunderstanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Knowledgeof federal grant regulations, including Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200).
• Proficiencyin accounting and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
• AdvancedMicrosoft Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools.
• Stronganalytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellentwritten and verbal communication skills.
• Abilityto manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
• Attentionto detail and commitment to accuracy.
• Abilityto work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
