Position Summary Title Code Teacher: Alternative One This posting creates a pool of candidates for future positions that may become available. Job Summary Under the direction of the principal, in collaboration with the Director of Alternative Education, plans and implements a program for students to improve student performance, attendance, behavior, remediate academic deficiencies and facilitate student success in the traditional school and virtual programs. Bilingual and biliterate in targeted language may be required depending on assignment. Virtual experience may be required based on assignment. Essential Duties/Responsibilities Conducts student needs assessment and Individual Success Plan, as needed. Plans appropriate curricular interventions based on identified student barriers to student learning. Develops and implements strategies for involving disengaged students in the in-class or virtual school program. Acts as case manager for a specific group of vulnerable youth: provide mentoring; organizational skill development; study skills instruction; support for families; and provision of linkages to necessary community agencies. Fosters communication with students, parents, community agencies and professional organizations across the county. Assists in the development of program components and activities designed to enhance the school’s continuum of supports and services for students and implementation of school improvement and strategic plans. Supports the professional growth and development of teachers by coaching innovative instructional strategies, materials and programs for students experiencing barriers to in-class or virtual learning. Monitors and evaluates discipline data to inform interventions and supports for students. Ensures appropriate academic scheduling to meet the needs of diverse learners through consultation with counselors and administrators. Collaborate with behavioral specialists and student advocates for support in implementing effective behavioral interventions. Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower. Education Bachelor's Degree in related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required. Experience Three (3) years related successful classroom teaching required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Characteristics Ability to motivate reluctant learners. Knowledge of human behavior and adolescent development. Ability to work on a team and to individualize and differentiate instruction. Ability to motivate reluctant learners. Demonstrated ability to speak and write effectively. Excellent behavioral management and human relations skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations. Ability to effectively communicate with diverse communities and develop outreach strategies to encourage parental involvement in student learning. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and engage diverse parents/ guardians with varied communication styles, levels of skill and experience to support their child’s education experience. Demonstrated ability to work with virtual learning technology, remote instruction platforms, and Learning Management Systems. Ability to employ a variety of teaching styles to respond to the needs of diverse learners. Ability to travel to/from Maryland Sites as necessary at the expense of the employee is required for in-person appearances at various intervals throughout the duration of the school year. Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred). Language Requirements Bilingual/Biliterate If assigned to bilingual program, bilingual and biliterate in targeted language required. Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment. Hold or be eligible for educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) required. Hold or be eligible for professional educator certificate/license issued by Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) preferred. Driving Requirements N/A
