Northeastern - NYC Behavioral Health Counselor Job Summary: TheNortheastern- NYC Behavioral Health Counselor's primaryresponsibility is to provide psychological counseling services toNortheastern- NYC students. These services will include initialconsultation, emergency evaluation, crisis intervention and briefpsychotherapy. The position will also involve outreach activitiesto the Northeastern-NYC community and collaboration with variouscampus stakeholders. The counselor will be responsible for makingappropriate referrals for psychopharmacological evaluation andexternal ongoing counseling, and for referral to emergency mentalhealth services, when appropriate. Time spent amongst the variousclinical service activities may shift in proportion to changes inservice demands at any given time of the year. The counselor willoften work closely with academic departments and Student Affairsand will collaborate with medical clinicians at the Dow ZanghiStudent Health Center as appropriate, all in the interest ofproviding the best possible team-oriented health care toNortheastern-NYC students. Other duties as assigned by the Directorof CWC. Responsibilities: i. Consultation, outreach and committee work: Serve on University and Divisional committees, participate in the development, planning and provision of campus mental health and health promotions outreach. Consult with faculty, staff and administrators regarding mentalhealth needs of students. ii. AssistCWC Director in various administrative and clinical roles; acts ina leadership capacity in absence of the Director. iii. Directclinical services: Provide direct clinical services includinginitial consultation and disposition assignment, short-termindividual and group counseling, crisis intervention, emergencyevaluation, case management, electronic documentation, campus andcommunity referrals, and ongoing maintenance of referraldatabase. iv. Inservice and supervision: Provide in-service trainings to variouscampus departments. Participate in the administration of theexternship program, including individual and group supervision anddidactic seminars (degree of involvement will depend on candidate'sdegree). v. Otherduties as assigned. Qualifications: A doctoraldegree in clinical or counseling psychology with New York licenseis preferred but not required. Master's degree in Social Work orCounseling field, with New York license is required. Stronglypreferred 5+ years' experience and competency in urgent and crisisassessment and treatment, short-term psychotherapy, treatment ofalcohol/drug abuse, eating disorders, working with adolescents andcollege-aged clientele, demonstrated success in working effectivelyin an interdisciplinary team setting, and must work exceptionallywell with students identifying as BIPOC, LGBTQ+ students, international students, first generation and otherunder-represented students and communities on campus. Must have asophisticated understanding of how intersectionality, privilege,and socioeconomic status relate to the mental health of a globalstudent community. Salary Range: $74,640.00 To $115,690.00 Annually With the payrange(s) shown above, the starting salary will depend on severalfactors, which may include your education, experience, location,knowledge and expertise, and skills as well as a pay comparison tosimilarly-situated employees already in the role.
