Speech and Language Pathologist

Position Overview Responsible for providing transdisciplinary model speech/language therapy services to children with special needs at Bright Hope Learning Center as a licensed speech/language pathologist and function within the trans-disciplinary (TD) philosophy and team of Bright Hope Learning Center. Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Performs assessments, therapy interventions in individual and group activities for children with special needs per BHLC policies, timelines, and Bible-based curriculum. Develops appropriate therapeutic goals in conjunction with families for each child assigned. Establishes and provides speech, language, oral motor and communication intervention consistent with transdisciplinary functions and approach, supported by assistive technology. Participates in assistive technology team functions related to augmentative communication programs or related equipment and devices, preparing documentation to insurance for approval of speech‑generating devices. Consults with staff and parents regarding equipment, behavior and other therapeutic needs of the children. Models for classroom staff, therapeutic, behavioral and speech/language/feeding interventions, AAC devices, therapeutic small group activities and proper use of equipment in a TD manner. Provides in‑service training to staff, volunteers and parents when requested or as needed. Collaborates with other TD team members regarding the total therapeutic needs of the children. Designs and directs classroom speech, language, oral motor, communication systems aligned with the curriculum. Consults, as needed, with outside therapists, professionals or agencies providing assistance to a particular student to ensure coordination of programs. Participates in assistive technology (AT) and TD team functions and documentation as assigned. Consults with staff regarding speech–language/communication interventions, oral motor programs, behaviorally related interventions related to sensory processing disorders or autism. Coordinates with the transdisciplinary team regarding the total communication needs of the children. Consults as needed with community therapists who provide outside therapy service to children to ensure continuation of program. Serves as point therapist for a classroom to manage team staffing, documentation and other special class‑specific activities as assigned. Other duties as needed or required. Qualifications & Skills Required Licensed in the State of Kentucky as Speech Language Pathologist or in the process of obtaining a license and CCC with the American Speech and Hearing Association. Minimum one‑year experience working with children with developmental disabilities (preferred). Maintains professional license and required continuing education units. Possesses current knowledge and skills in: Neurological development. Speech/Language/Oral motor development. Adaptive equipment/ACC/AT. Speech/language procedures and interventions. Interpersonal relationships. Supervision of assigned employees, students or volunteers. Excellent analytical skills, communication and teaching skills. Manages confidential information and/or issues using discretion and judgment (if applicable). Incorporates a welcoming and teaching attitude towards guests, student interns and others who come to learn from the BHLC team. Personal relationship with Christ manifested consistently for the duration of her/his life as a Christian. Works independently and cooperatively as a team member with all BHLC staff. Demonstrates emotional stability, maturity, and a desire to grow spiritually such that spiritual principles will be reflected in day‑to‑day interactions and genuine concern for a job done correctly and with regard to others. Supports and participates in the trans‑disciplinary team approach to Special Education. Holds a current CPR certificate or is willing to obtain one; has or is willing to obtain a TB test. Preferred Experience with children birth through six years of age. Experience with sign language. Excellent skills in communication, learning new tasks, teamwork, organization, initiative and self‑directed completion of job. #J-18808-Ljbffr
