Intervention Specialist

Intervention SpecialistWe are looking for an intervention specialist to assist us with designing and implementing individualized programs for children with special educational and social adjustment needs. The intervention specialist will consider demographic factors, developmental level, and health status when making recommendations. You will create and maintain records of progress, and collaborate with parents to refer children to psychologists and other therapists. In addition to teaching the appropriate course of study following the state standards for each subject area using a variety of instructional techniques that meet individual learning styles.Essential Job Functions:Provide services and accommodations to students identified with a disabilityAssist in coordinating the special education program for all students with disabilities in the school districtAssist in implementation of federal law and Ohio rules for educating students with disabilitiesAdminister contract services for childrenImplement and document data for individual student IEP'sDevelop IEP's for children; assist in scheduling IEP conferencesProvide classroom teachers with resource informationCoordinate activities between the school district and outside agenciesWork with regular classroom teachers co-teaching in an inclusion settingPrepare local, state and federal reports relative to areas of special education and pupil personnel servicesServe as a member of IAT and IEP teams as requiredAttend IEP conferencesConsult with regular education teacher concerning modifications, adaptations or alternate assignments in regular education classroom for special education studentsEnsure record keeping tasks and individual records of all children recommended to receive special education services or those enrolled in special education entitled to a free appropriate public educationRemain in compliance with dates requiredAnalyze data to create and implement behavior intervention plansAdhere to rules and regulations regarding programs that relate to special educationUtilize RtI to meet the needs of all studentsEvaluate test scores to monitor progress of studentsCompile and maintain an accurate inventory of special education materialsRepresent the district at local, state and regional activities/committees as agreed toMaintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., student IEP's, testing information, student and staff informationEnsure that the IEP goals/objectives for students are metFacilitate communication with families and staffDemonstrate knowledge of subject matter and present clear, complete and accurate explanations utilizing a variety of instructional techniques and media suitable to the level of learnersImplement strategies to accomplish individualized program goalsConsult with regular classroom teacher concerning placement of potential studentsAdapt curriculum and provide alternative teaching techniques and assessments to best enhance student learningOther Duties and Responsibilities:Maintain and improve professional competence by attending professional seminars, workshops, etc. to keep current on relevant issuesSupport school, enforce school rules and policiesParticipate on building level teams and/or teacher based teams and/or district level "teams"Organize various subject specific programs within assigned buildingWork closely with administrators as part of development teams to discuss and implement new practices such as "team" teaching, semester projects, etc.Act as department chairperson when requested and agreed uponServe as a role model for studentsAssist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other instructional materialsServe on committees and co-curricular activities as agreed uponSupervise student teachersDiscipline students when necessary following the district PBIS modelRespond to routine questions and requests in a timely, appropriate mannerPerform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Assistant or Special Education DirectorQualifications:Bachelor's degree (B.A.) or equivalent from a four-year college or universityLess than one year related experienceAppropriate State of Ohio certification/licenseRequired Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of academic area and various teaching methodologiesAbility to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingEffective, active listening skillsOrganizational and problem solving skillsTraining in varied instructional designsSkills that foster and facilitate learning and classroom managementKnowledge in child development and an understanding of age appropriate tasksEducational pedagogyStudent/teacher professional relationshipTechnology skills eg. electronic grades, moodleBasic first aidAdditional Working Conditions:Occasional evening/weekend/summer workOccasionally lift, carry, push and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds, e.g., classroom materials and suppliesFrequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, hear, see, read, crouch, kneel, balance and stoopPossible requirement to travelOccasional exposure to high heat index temperatures and low wind chill temperatures
