Role Description Job description: The Quality Control Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all raw materials, in-process batches, and finished products meet established quality standards before they are released for production or shipment. This position performs laboratory testing, documents results, maintains laboratory equipment, and works closely with Production, Purchasing, and Customer Service to ensure product quality and consistency. Experienced in handling a wide range of administrative and executive support related tasks and able to work independently with little or no supervision. Responsibilities Essential ResponsibilitiesIncoming Raw Material Inspection Collect and test samples of incoming raw materials. In-Process Quality Control Perform testing on production batches during manufacturing. Verify pH, specific gravity, viscosity, color, appearance, and other required specifications. Communicate required batch adjustments to Production when necessary. Document all testing results accurately. Finished Product Release Test finished products against established specifications. Approve or reject finished batches based on quality standards. Maintain retain samples for each production lot. Verify packaging, labels, lot numbers, and fill weights prior to release. Laboratory Operations Maintain a clean, safe, and organized laboratory. Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment including pH meters, balances, viscometers, thermometers, and other testing devices. Prepare testing solutions, standards, and reagents. Maintain laboratory inventory and notify management when supplies require replenishment. Documentation Complete all laboratory records accurately and legibly. Maintain Certificates of Analysis (COAs), batch records, calibration logs, and retain sample records. Assist with investigations of out-of-specification (OOS) results. Support ISO, GMP, customer, and regulatory audits as required. Continuous Improvement Assist in developing and improving laboratory procedures. Identify opportunities to improve product consistency and manufacturing efficiency. Participate in corrective and preventive action (CAPA) activities. Maintain compliance with company safety and quality procedures. Verify materials meet approved specifications before use. Record test results and communicate any non-conforming materials to management. Maintain retain samples of incoming materials. Required Qualifications Associate's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Technology, or related field preferred (or equivalent manufacturing laboratory experience). 1–3 years of laboratory or manufacturing quality experience preferred. Strong attention to detail. Basic mathematical skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Ability to follow written procedures and specifications. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Preferred Experience Chemical manufacturing Industrial cleaners or detergents Titration techniques pH measurement Viscosity testing Specific gravity testing ISO 9001 or GMP environments Equipment Used pH meters Analytical balances Brookfield viscometers Hydrometers or density meters Conductivity meters Refractometers Laboratory glassware Titration equipment Ovens and hot plates Computer and ERP/LIMS software Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds. Ability to safely handle chemical samples while wearing appropriate PPE. Ability to distinguish colors when evaluating product appearance. Occasional work in manufacturing areas around production equipment. Performance Expectations Success in this role will be measured by: Accurate and timely completion of quality testing. Low laboratory error rate. Timely release of production batches. Documentation accuracy. Calibration compliance. Support of customer quality requirements. Safe laboratory operations.
