Quality Manager (Food Manufacturing)
Position OverviewThe Quality Manager will lead and maintain the sites food safety and quality management systems to ensure all products meet regulatory requirements, customer specifications, and internal standards. This role is responsible for HACCP implementation, continuous improvement of quality processes, supplier and site auditing, and cross-functional collaboration to drive product safety, consistency, and compliance. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement and maintain food safety and quality systems including HACCP, GMPs, and relevant certifications (e.g., ISO 22000, BRC, SQF).
- Lead internal and external audits, manage corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and ensure timely resolution of non-conformances.
- Oversee product release decisions, lot traceability, and quarantine/release procedures to ensure only compliant product reaches customers.
- Manage supplier quality program: approve suppliers, perform supplier audits, and monitor incoming material quality.
- Conduct root cause analysis for quality incidents, implement corrective actions, and monitor effectiveness to prevent recurrence.
- Provide training and coaching to production and quality teams on food safety, hygiene, QC testing, and quality procedures.
- Develop and maintain quality documentation, records, and performance metrics; prepare reports for senior management and customers.
- Collaborate with R&D, production, regulatory and supply chain teams to support new product introductions and process changes from a quality and food safety perspective.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure site compliance with local and international food safety regulations and customer requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce defects, waste, and variability while improving product quality and operational efficiency.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Food Technology, or a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum 5 years experience in quality assurance/quality management within food manufacturing; experience supervising or managing a quality team.
- Demonstrated expertise in HACCP planning and implementation; HACCP certification required.
- Strong knowledge of Food Manufacturing practices, GMPs, allergen control, microbiological testing, and environmental monitoring.
- Experience with food safety standards and certifications (e.g., ISO 22000, BRC, SQF) and regulatory frameworks (e.g., FSMA, local regulations).
- Proven experience conducting audits (internal, supplier, customer) and managing CAPA systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and root cause analysis skills (e.g., 8D, Fishbone, 5 Whys).
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to train staff and influence cross-functional teams.
- Proficient with quality management software and MS Office; experience with statistical process control and quality metrics is desirable.

Job Duties:
- Review operations and confer with management, technical and/or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems with a positive attitude and tenacity.

- Evaluate food processing and storage operations and assist in the development of quality assurance programs for such operations.
- Directs inspection of raw ingredients for maturity or stability for processing and finished products for safety, quality, and nutritional value.
- Confer with management or subordinates to resolve worker problems, complaints, or grievances.
- Abide by and enforce safety and sanitation regulations and work procedures.
- Confer with other managers/supervisors to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
- Interact professionally with internal and external customers, vendors, and prospects in support of company initiatives.
- Track corrective action responses and verify implementation.
- Backup other Quality positions as necessary.
- Participate on SQF, HACCP, Quality, Recall, Organoleptic Analysis and Process Improvement teams.
- Ensure quality related equipment calibration is completed at set frequencies.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to learn.
- Direct, teaches and empowers Quality Control Supervisor
- Assist with food safety monitoring, verifying and validation activities.
- Manage hold/rejects process with communication to required internal management and external vendors.
- Strong Knowledge of company internal ERP System and data collection
- Administers and coordinates activities related to third party sanitation and pest control companies.
- Make recommendations to management to improve the quality process.
- Excellent communication and listening skills, strong observational, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience and Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Biological Sciences, or related fields
- 2-3 years of Food Safety and Quality Experience
- Strong computer, communication, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, training and interaction skills
- Strong basic math and science skills
- Must be able to distinguish between all colors including red/green and perform organoleptic analysis.
- Knowledge of inputs, outputs, raw materials, waste, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing the manufacture and distribution of goods
- Detail oriented and must understand and audit FDA, GMP, HACCP and SQF requirements.
- Basic knowledge of Food Laws and Regulations- Stays up-to-date and ensures compliance with food laws and regulations.
- HACCP and SQF certification (required within 3 months of starting position)
- Ability to lift 35 lbs and restack pallet.
