CNC Machinist

A custom metal fabrication and engineered container manufacturing company located in Waxahachie, TX is seeking a Skilled Laser Operator for their 2nd shift!


Pay: $23-$27/hour depending on experience and skill level


Shift: 2nd Shift - Monday through Thursday, 4:30 PM - 2:30 AM
- Will train on 1st shift, 6:00-4:30pm, for 2-4 weeks. Candidate must be comfortable with this schedule temporarily.
- Overtime may be required on Fridays and Saturdays based on production needs.
- Candidates must be available to work overtime when scheduled.


Job Summary:
Responsible for overseeing all functions and operations of an advanced automated sheet metal fabrication cell, including laser cutting, panel bending, and automated material storage systems. This role includes machine setup, programming, production monitoring, quality assurance, troubleshooting, and ensuring efficient overnight manufacturing operations in alignment with production requirements and safety standards.


The position also requires working knowledge of punch press and combination punch/laser equipment, along with the ability to provide oversight and guidance within these operations.


Key Responsibilities
- Independently set up, operate, and monitor the Salvagnini automated manufacturing system, including the L5 Fiber Laser, P4 Panel Bender, and Store Tower.
- Load and run machine programs, making adjustments when necessary while understanding laser cutting parameters, bending sequences, and automated workflow processes.
- Verify correct program selection for job numbers
- Understand basic G-code and/or machine programming logic (preferred)
- Perform program edits and offsets if/when needed
- Monitor laser cutting and automated panel bending operations to ensure productivity and product quality.
- Manage automated material handling using the Store Tower system, including storage, retrieval, and inventory tracking.
- Interpret blueprints, job travelers, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accurate fabrication.
- Understand dimensions, tolerances, and geometric features
- Identify hole sizes, patterns, forms, and cut profiles
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using measurement tools such as calipers, gauges, and tape measures.
- Conduct routine machine checks, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate production records and document completed work orders.
- Follow all workplace safety policies and established manufacturing procedures.
- Coordinate with day shift personnel to ensure smooth job handoffs and continuous workflow.
- Verify finished parts meet dimensional and quality standards prior to completion.
- Troubleshoot operational issues and address production challenges as they arise.


Punch/Laser Operations & Team Oversight Responsibilities
1. Interpretation of Technical Drawings
- Ability to accurately read and analyze engineering schematics and blueprints
- Comprehension of measurements, tolerances, and geometric specifications
- Recognize hole dimensions, layouts, forming details, and cut configurations
2. Equipment Setup & Operation
- Operate CNC punch/laser combination equipment (experience with similar systems preferred)
- Execute proper startup, shutdown, and safety procedures
- Load, position, and secure sheet metal materials for processing
- Select and install appropriate tooling for punching applications
- Adjust machine parameters based on material type, thickness, and job specifications
3. CNC Programming Knowledge
- Upload and execute CNC programs for production runs
- Confirm correct program selection corresponding to work orders
- Familiarity with basic CNC logic and G-code is a plus
- Make minor program adjustments or offsets when necessary
- Monitor machine performance and make real-time adjustments to maintain quality
4. Tooling & Material Expertise
- Identify, install, and maintain punch tools and dies
- Understand proper clearances and tool sharpening requirements
- Detect signs of tool wear or damage
- Perform routine tool changes and basic upkeep
- Knowledge of material properties and behavior during processing
5. Inspection & Quality Assurance
- Utilize precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and tape measures
- Conduct first-piece and in-process inspections
- Verify dimensional accuracy including hole size, spacing, and cut integrity
- Identify defects such as burrs, distortion, or inconsistencies in cuts
6. Preventative Equipment Maintenance
- Carry out routine upkeep tasks, including:
a) Cleaning machine surfaces and work areas
b) Removing scrap material and debris buildup
c) Monitoring and maintaining lubrication levels
d) Checking tooling condition regularly
- Communicate equipment issues, alarms, or malfunctions to appropriate personnel


Qualifications
- Minimum of 3+ years of hands-on experience operating Salvagnini equipment, including the L5 Fiber Laser, P4 Panel Bender, and Store Tower system (strongly preferred).
- Night shift availability.
- Solid understanding of automated sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Experience with Salvagnini software is preferred and CAD/CAM integration.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and tolerance specifications.
- Experience using inspection tools such as calipers, tape measures, and pin gauges.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in machining or manufacturing preferred.
- Will consider strong CNC Programmer/Machinist w/ laser and fabrication experience
- Press brake knowledge is preferred
- Mada-specific laser experience is preferred.
