Special Education Coordinator

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
To use leadership and communication skills to ensure appropriate services to all students, case manage out-of-district students and serve as a positive liaison between staff, principals and parents. To provide leadership to special education and regular education staff in regards to special education policies and procedures and the education of children with disabilities within the public school.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's Degree or higher in education Certification as Special Education Administrator Demonstrated knowledge of state & federal regulations and IEP development Minimum three years successful teaching experience At least three years of experience as special education teacher and case manager. Experience with NHSEIS online systemPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Learning Disability, Emotionally Handicapped and/or Mentally Retardation endorsement preferred Reports To: Director of Student Services Supervisory Responsibility: Special Education staffESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Coordinate and supervise the special education programs within the school district Coordinate and attend referral, evaluation and IEP meetings as the LEA Oversee IEP development, authorize final IEP, monitor student progress and progress reports Ensure that all procedures and related timelines are met regarding IEP development, evaluations, and determination of eligibility Assist school administration with placement of special education students in regular education Organize, design, and deliver in-service training for regular education teachers, special education teachers and support staff regarding special education services, IEP implementation, and other related issues Attend court proceedings for special education students Participate as a member of the Student Assistance Team Assist in recruitment, screening, hiring, training, and assignment of special education personnel Provide case management for a portion of the out-of-district students Assist with ensuring compliance as it relates to the Medicaid to Schools Program Coordinate and attend transition meetings for eighth graders moving to the high school Coordinate and plan post-secondary transition meetings with NH Vocational Rehabilitation for graduating students Coordinate with outside agencies for the purpose of supporting special education students Maintenance of confidential special education records Assist in extended school year planningWORKING ENVIRONMENT
Physically able to perform the essential function of the job as outlined above, including frequent standing, walking, sitting, seeing, talking, hearing, using hands to manipulate, handle, and feel objects. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb steps, stoop, kneel, or crouch.OTHER DUTIES
