Once famous as the Bath City for its mineral springs, Mount Clemens, MI serves as the seat of Macomb County, about twenty-five miles northeast of Detroit on the Clinton River. Therapy clinics and imaging departments are spread through the city and the surrounding Macomb County suburbs, part of the larger Detroit metro network. M-59 runs west toward Utica as the main retail corridor, Gratiot Avenue heads southwest toward Detroit, and I-94 ties the area to the rest of the metro. The historic downtown and the county courthouse anchor the center of town. Housing tends to run cheaper out here than in the inner-ring suburbs closer to Detroit, which suits travelers looking to stretch a stipend.
