Job Title: MA/LPN Primary

FLSA Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt 

Employment Status: Full Time 

Location: Fort Smith

Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00AM- 5:00 PM 

Travel Requirements: None 

Position Summary  

The Primary LPN/MA supports the daily operations of the urology clinic by providing patient care, coordinating clinical and administrative activities, assisting the physician and clinical team, and maintaining effective communication with patients, providers, and other members of the healthcare team. The position requires sound clinical judgment within the individual's scope of practice, attention to patient safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment. 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities  

• Demonstrate appropriate clinical knowledge and skills in assessing, planning, implementing, documenting, and evaluating patient care within the individual's scope of practice, licensure, and applicable standards and protocols. 
• Triage patient needs and use a collaborative, team-based approach to identify, assess, and appropriately address patient care concerns, escalating issues to the physician or other appropriate clinical professional when indicated. 
• Work closely with the physician and clinic team to support the effective and efficient daily operation of the clinic. 
• Coordinate and assist with clinical and administrative activities, which may include: 
• Scheduling surgeries, laboratory services, and outpatient diagnostic imaging; 
• Tracking and communicating test results in accordance with established procedures; 
• Assisting with patient rooming and preparation; 
• Managing and appropriately routing incoming telephone calls and patient communications; and 
• Coordinating follow-up activities as directed. 
• Provide patient care and perform nursing or clinical procedures consistent with the employee's licensure, training, competency, applicable nursing standards, organizational policies, and established protocols. 
• Demonstrate effective patient-safety practices and follow applicable infection-prevention and control procedures. 
• Maintain accurate, timely, and complete patient documentation in the electronic medical record and other required systems. 
• Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, physicians, coworkers, and other healthcare professionals through verbal, written, and electronic communication. 
• Work collaboratively as a member of the clinic team to accomplish daily operational and patient-care objectives efficiently and effectively. 
• Participate in clinic initiatives, quality-improvement activities, and operational activities as appropriate to the position. 
• Perform other duties and responsibilities consistent with the position, as assigned. 

Qualifications  

Required:  

• Current, unrestricted LPN license OR MA Certification in the state of Arkansas, as applicable to the position.  
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from a recognized provider. 
• BLS certification must be current before the employee independently provides patient care. 
• Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. 
• Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians, and members of the healthcare team. 
• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and comply with applicable privacy and healthcare requirements. 

Preferred:  

• Previous medical office, outpatient clinic, or urology experience. 
• Experience with electronic medical records and healthcare scheduling systems. 
• Experience working directly with physicians in an outpatient clinical setting. 

Physical Demands  

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. 
• Ability to sit for extended periods. 
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds. 
• Manual dexterity to operate medical equipment, computers, office equipment, and standard clinical instruments. 
• Ability to use a computer and view a monitor for extended periods. 
• Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and assist patients as needed. 

Work Environment  

• Clinical environment with exposure to blood, bodily fluids, sharps, infectious diseases, and other biohazards. 
• Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with safety and infection control protocols. 
• Fast-paced patient care environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. 
• Indoor, temperature-controlled clinical environment.
