Staff Accountant

Company Overview At Heartland Barge Management, LLC, we are a leading provider of inland river barge operations, barge chartering, leasing, and marine brokerage services. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a detail‑oriented Staff Accountant to join our finance team. This individual will play a key role in supporting our financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data in the evolving inland marine industry. Job Summary The Staff Accountant will be involved in accounts receivable invoicing, accounts payable processing, project cost tracking, and month‑end close. This position will be an integral part of the accounting team and will help support the accuracy and timeliness of financial information. Key Responsibilities Accounts Receivable Entry: Prepare and present supporting documentation for customer invoicing and reconcile accounts receivable activity to the general ledger in Sage Intacct. Accounts Payable Entry: Enter daily operational events into dispatch software to support accounts payable processing and reconcile related activity to the general ledger in Sage Intacct. Cross Departmental Coordination: Coordinate approvals for various vouchers, including towing, repairs, claims, and inspections. Project Tracking: Track costs by specific project. Month End: Assist with the month‑end closing process. Supply & Facility Management: Monitor inventory levels, order office supplies, and coordinate with vendors or building maintenance for facility‑related services as needed. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years accounting experience. Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred; relevant certification is a plus. Proficiency in accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred), dispatch software, and Microsoft Excel. Strong attention to detail, problem‑solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast‑paced environment.
