Product Owner, Accounting Stack

Role Description

You will own Flex's Accountants Stack, which includes:

• Accounting integrations
• Expense management
• Bill pay
• Invoicing
• Accounts Receivable (AR) and Accounts Payable (AP)
• Financial reporting

The accountant is the lead persona for this role, which includes:

• Bookkeepers
• Controllers
• Fractional CFOs
• Outside CPAs

You will build for them, ensuring the owner wins by default. This role exists at Flex due to the unique customer we serve:

• Super premium business owners with $3M to $200M in revenue
• Controllers or outside accountants
• Real ERP systems (NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, Acumatica)
• A layered financial life where business and personal finances are intertwined

You will not build a generic accounting integration, but rather:

• Define the strategy and own the connectivity layer to accounting and ERP systems
• Build expense management that works for both owners and accountants
• Own bill pay and AR/AP workflows
• Build the invoicing product
• Architect the connection between business and personal financial data
• Partner closely with Banking, Credit, Cards, and Payments product owners
• Translate the controller, CFO, and CPA persona for the rest of the company

Qualifications

• Experience in understanding how business owners and accountants run financial operations
• Knowledge of the differences between a bookkeeper, controller, fractional CFO, and outside accountant
• Hands-on familiarity with at least two of the following: QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, Acumatica
• Ability to journal a transaction without looking it up
• Understanding of accrual versus cash basis, the close cycle, and 1099 forms
• Experience building inside an accounting platform, on top of one as an integration partner, or a fintech product that lives natively in the accounting workflow
• Understanding of the accountant channel and CPA influence on product adoption
• Typically 4 to 10 years of experience
