Respiratory Therapist II

Under the direction of department management and according to established policies and procedures, the Respiratory Therapist II demonstrates an advanced level of knowledge in respiratory care and associated patient care areas. This role involves providing competent care through effective airway management, mechanical ventilator management, oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, and various respiratory care procedures and treatments aimed at assessing, preventing, stabilizing, or remedying respiratory dysfunction in patients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Administer standard respiratory care including aerosol medication delivery, basic bedside pulmonary function testing, breathing exercises, and arterial punctures.
• Manage all aspects of airway management including aspiration of established airways, tracheostomy care, tube changes, endotracheal intubations, and extubations.
• Transport pediatric and neonatal patients as per protocol.
• Perform advanced respiratory care procedures such as UAC, UVC, IV insertion, intraosseous insertion, chest tube insertion, needle decompression, arterial blood gases, and blood glucose monitoring as deemed necessary.
• Manage ECMO for cardiac and respiratory support when required.
• Perform ventilator care, including setup, function verification, patient monitoring, and weaning techniques.
• Maintain and enhance job knowledge and skills; function independently with minimal supervision and serve as a resource to less experienced staff.

Required Skills & Experience:

• Minimum of two years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Ability to read, interpret, and document clinical information and technical procedures.
• Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, physicians, family members, and other staff.
• Mathematical skills to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
• Reasoning ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions.
• Capacity to interpret a wide variety of technical situations.

Required Education:

• Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Therapy program.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• Current certification as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC).
• Depending on the population served, all teammates must hold at least one additional certification such as ACLS, NRP, PALS, or an advanced practice certificate to administer moderate sedation in a Bronchoscopy Lab.
• All certifications must be maintained as required by the certifying body.

Schedule Notes: Candidates must be able to start on a specified date. Block schedule requests will be considered.

Shift Details: Scheduled from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM.
