Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:

The Staff Nurse Leader oversees clinical functions related to the delivery of patient care, the quality of nursing practice and the standards of care for the assigned shift. Coordinates patient care activities by directing staff and functions on the unit, while maintaining clinical nursing practice skills and unit specific expertise. Performs professional nursing duties that incorporate the psychomotor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other to assess, plan, intervene and advocate for the patient on an ongoing basis throughout the continuum of care. Provides break relief coverage for the shift. Troubleshoots and resolves issues as they arise. Functions as a role model and clinical resource to staff and patients.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:

• Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills by a minimum of four points in leadership roles/responsibilities within the last three years, which may be obtained through the following: Leadership of a project team with effective project outcome and implementation; Advanced degree (MSN) with a focus in leadership; Relief PCC; Qualified Preceptor; Leadership of a Practice Council or in a professional organization; House Supervisor; Membership in a professional development program, Quality Councils and/or PI Teams; Skin Prevalence Nurse; Teaching a class/skills lab or acting as a Clinical instructor; and/or success as an EPIC Superuser. • Minimum of five years recent acute care RN experience with four years working in a step-down or ICU level of care environment
• Complete understanding of patient classification system & staffing requirements for the patient population
• All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
• Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English
• ANCC recognized RN certification uniquely applicable to this specific unit, (general certifications, such as WCC, will not be acceptable for meeting this requirement).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Understanding of applicable regulatory requirements
• Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Licenses and Certifications:

• Registered Nurse
• Basic Life Support
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support

• Bachelor of Science, Nursing
