Job Summary:
The neuro med-surgical registered nurse (RN) position is located in Louisville, Kentucky. This role requires providing care to patients with neurological and high acuity medical conditions within a specialized medical-surgical unit. Candidates are expected to bring their license on the first day.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Days shift from 0630 to 1900 and 1830 to 0700, with a schedule cycle every 6 weeks; weekend rotation every third weekend; candidates may be scheduled to work some holidays.
  • Required Qualifications: Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, current nursing license, and a minimum of 1 year of relevant nursing experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Experience with high acuity rehabilitation care, trauma, and neurological patient care.
  • Float: Float rotation may be required within scope of practice, with staff evenly floated primarily through the Float Pool.
  • Additional Information:
    • Unit cares for patients with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, strokes, amputations, burns, pediatric and multi-trauma cases.
    • Typical patient ratios are 1:6-7, occasionally increasing up to 7 patients.
    • Patients may float off the unit for dialysis or procedures.
    • Support staff includes phlebotomy personnel, PCA/CNA with a 1:7-8 ratio, unit coordinators, physicians, nurse practitioners, residents, physical/occupational/speech therapists.
    • No monitors are on the unit; vital sign monitors are centralized.
    • EMR system used is Cerner; equipment includes IV pumps (Plum 360), and medication dispensing via Omnicell.
    • Orientation occurs in multiple phases: online, NVCI (in-person), and unit-specific orientation.
    • The culture on the unit is accepting of travelers and maintains the same standards as full-time staff.
