JOB DESCRIPTION DETAILS
Job Summary: Performs general clerical duties by preparing, compiling and maintaining records on a nursing unit.
Education: Position requires a high school diploma or GED or 0-6 months equivalent combination of education and experience in related area.
Registration/Certification/Licensure: None Specified
Experience: 1-2 years related experience preferred.
Other Requirements: Maintains unit-specific and hospital competencies, mandatory learning, and any clinical certifications required in accordance with the Staff Education and Training policy GA-057 and/or any other department requirements. Successful completion of Unit Secretary Orientation
Answers phones, relays/dispatches messages to other staff or departments as appropriate.
Manages central desk area of nursing unit directs staff, physicians and customers as needed.
Assists in answering patient call system and contacts appropriate staff person.
Maintains up-to-date unit census.
Orders supplies under the direction of the unit director.
Maintains patient records, including preparing and compiling records, filing and copying as needed.
Prepares admission charts and breaks down discharge charts in accordance with Medical Record protocol
