Job Title: Phlebotomist Employment Status: Full Time Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:15 am – 5:15 pm Department: Lab Location: 38111 Market Square Drive, Zephyrhills, FL Position Summary This position functions independently or with minimal supervision in all laboratory areas and duties including phlebotomy, specimen processing, and clerical responsibilities, all performed in a timely and efficient manner. Essential Functions Front Office Functions Provides support in patient registration and demonstrates knowledge of third‑party reimbursement requirements and regulations Performs start‑up duties prior to opening the lab Adds tests for add‑ons and handles recollections Properly charges STATs to HMOs Copies insurance cards and uses proper stamps on orders such as FROZEN, Labcorp, Quest Prints daily logs and dispenses petty cash Fax reports from the previous day and handles drug screen collections Quotes lab prices and makes deposits Prints labels for requisitions and specimens, obtains ABN forms for Medicare patients, and uses valid diagnosis codes Properly identifies patients, collects payments, issues receipts, and challenges ambiguous orders per protocol Verifies patient insurance information and provides lab results to patients and physicians Directs incoming faxes to correct personnel, answers phone calls, and transfers calls appropriately Calls or faxes any urgent results to the appropriate provider per written protocol Maintains optimal productivity and minimal errors while mastering new work routines Phlebotomy Properly identifies patient at the draw point, verifies requested tests, and performs peripheral IV insertion Communicates with supervisors regarding any issues that may affect patient care Uses Proper Phlebotomy Technique Ensures ABN is properly filled out and signed Uses personal protective equipment when performing venipuncture Prepares and labels specimens for transport Provides necessary information on requisitions (date, time, initials, number and type of tubes) Interprets orders accurately and draws 35‑40 patients per day with minimal assistance Maintains organized requisition folders and prepares them for scanning Provides phlebotomy services to physicians’ offices when needed for special procedures and family practice Back Office Prepares reports for distribution and loads specimens passed through the system Supplies missing billing information and works internal billing charges within three days Keeps daily requisitions filed neatly, works outstanding test reports for LabCorp and Quest, and manages error logs Retrieves results and transmits requisitions as required Directs incoming mail to correct personnel and performs daily mail‑outs for outside providers Processing Specimens Properly spins down specimens when necessary, checks for fibrinogen and clots, and separates any specimens for special transport tubes Prepares specimens for transportation with couriers and distributes STATs according to protocol Performs “clean‑outs” in Flex‑e Suite Inventory Makes accurate inventory of supplies, checks levels weekly to prevent shortages, and orders supplies on a scheduled routine basis Distributes supplies to remote labs and patients, keeping the supply area neat and clutter‑free Computer Utilization Looks up results and prints them in Intergy, Flex‑e Suite, LCM Prints patient demographic sheets and insurance cards, loads insurances into Intergy, and sets proper coverage Creates requisitions in Clinicians for Labcorp, Quest, and LIS Performs result retrieval and transmissions, and prints billing reports or work lists for STAT, mail, and fax logs Registers new patients or updates existing information in Intergy and loads drug studies Maintains compliance with Orlando Health policies and procedures and meets attendance standards per ADA, FMLA, and other applicable regulations Performs other duties as assigned Other Related Functions Maintains an organized and clean work area, places phones on and off service at appropriate times, and participates in maintaining office supplies Performs incidental duties as required and travels to different FMC work locations when requested Works flexible hours to meet departmental needs and maintains positive customer service relationships Education / Training High School graduate or equivalent required Licensure / Certification Must obtain within six (6) months of hire: phlebotomy certification from A.S.C.P., N.P.A., A.S.P.T. or a program requiring a minimum of 100 patient collections Experience Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Strong computer proficiency Demonstrated ability to lead people and achieve results through others Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple priorities Excellent phlebotomy skills for both pediatric and geriatric patients Updated 06/29/2026 #J-18808-Ljbffr Florida Medical Clinic Orlando Health
