Overview Job Posting Title: Correctional Case Manager Agency: 131, Department of Corrections Supervisory Organization: DOC JHCC Location: Joseph Harp Correctional Center This is not a remote position. Responsibilities Provide routine social casework in the classification and assignment of offenders committed to a correctional institution, and provide advanced social casework related to offender re-entry into the community. Use interview techniques and assessment instruments to determine security risks and programmatic needs; prepare case history reports and recommend program assignments. Review work and conduct records of all assigned offenders to determine progress or need to change assignments or security classifications; serve as a member of the classification unit for an assigned caseload. Advise offenders on personal problems, employment resources, vocational skills, educational and training needs, family problems, and institutional adjustment. Deliver programs to offenders to assist successful re-entry into the community following release from incarceration. Assist with or prepare reports such as parole summaries or court-ordered presentence investigations. Receive and process incoming and outgoing mail for assigned offenders. Develop, monitor, and amend offender transition plans in line with re-entry programs and services. Establish collaborative networks with relevant partners to provide pre- and post-release services involving family members, community resources, and social service agencies. Level Descriptors Level I: Entry-level routine case management work under close supervision, involving classification and assignment of offenders. Level II: Full range of case management tasks, overseeing difficult advanced classification and counseling cases. Level III: Specialist level providing programs (substance abuse treatment, cognitive behavior and sex offender treatment) and coordination of strategic social casework, transition/intervention plans, assessments, and referrals/follow-up. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies Level I: Knowledge of vocational guidance, social adjustment principles, institutional positions, interviewing and counseling techniques, and offender social/psychological issues. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships, communicate effectively, and determine suitable facility segments for offenders. Level II: All Level I knowledge plus principles of personality development, social structure of offender populations and assimilation. Ability to establish relationships, communicate effectively, and determine appropriate facility segments for offenders. Level III: All Level I/II knowledge plus government laws, community resources. Ability to motivate offenders positively and constructively, in addition to relationship-building and communication. Education and Experience Level I: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of correctional facility experience for each 30 semester hours of education. Level II: Bachelor’s degree and two years of correctional records management or social casework with related responsibilities; substitutions allowed as noted (master’s degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience). Level III: Bachelor’s degree and three years of correctional records management or social casework with related responsibilities; substitutions allowed as noted (master’s degree may substitute for one year of specialized experience). Additional Information Note: No substitution is allowed for the required period of qualifying specialized experience described in Levels II and III.
