Summary Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) are licensed independent practitioners (LIP) in VHA who provide examination, diagnosis, treatment, and management of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions using non‑pharmacologic and non‑operative methods. They meet the needs of customers while supporting the VHA and the facility missions and consistently communicate and treat customers—including patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff—in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner. Qualifications To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physicians in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements United States citizenship; non‑citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy Doctor of Chiropractic degree—or its equivalent—from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year the course of study was completed Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia Grade determinations: candidates must meet the criteria for Associate, Full, Intermediate, Senior, or Chief grades as appropriate (see attached qualification standard for details) No additional requirements beyond the basic requirements Full Grade: Two years of full‑time chiropractic practice or equivalent; or one year of full‑time post‑graduate residency specialty training from an accredited chiropractic school or equivalent agency Intermediate Grade: Requirements of Full grade plus four total years of chiropractic practice or equivalent, or a 3‑year post‑graduate residency program from an accredited U.S. chiropractic college with evidence of completion and certification by a recognized specialty board Senior Grade: Requirements of Intermediate grade plus additional professional attainment and leadership experience, such as faculty appointments, diplomacy, or national level program management Chief Grade: Requirements of Senior grade plus sustained high professional performance, national scope responsibilities, and exceptional professional attainment Proficiency in spoken and written English Reference: For more information on this qualification standard, please visit Physical Requirements Lifting up to 35 pounds intermittently Moderate carrying (15-35 pounds) intermittently Lifting over 35 pounds with assistive devices in accordance with the Safe Patient Handling Policy, except in emergent situations requiring prompt patient care Pulling, pushing, reaching above the shoulders, walking, standing, kneeling, and repeated bending, all intermittently Duties This is an open continuous announcement and will remain open until September30,2026. The initial cut‑off date for referrals of eligible applications will be June1,2026 with subsequent cut‑off dates every month. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Chiropractors utilize standard medical evaluation procedures along with biomechanical assessment to establish a diagnosis and formulate a management plan. They consult with other health care providers and refer patients in accordance with accepted medical indications. Chiropractic treatment includes patient education, therapeutic exercise, lifestyle recommendations, joint manipulation, mobilization, soft tissue therapies, and physical modalities. Scope of practice is at the discretion of the Chief of Staff, with clinical privileges granted based on documented education, competence, and experience. Minimum practice privileges include performing patient history and physical examination, ordering imaging and laboratory studies, establishing diagnosis and treatment plan, providing patient instruction on hygiene, nutrition, exercise, lifestyle changes, and ergonomic modifications, performing standard manual procedures consistent with core chiropractic curriculum, providing other CIH services as consistent with training and licensing, and making referrals to other clinicians.
