About the Position

Registered Nurse – Interventional Radiology (IR)

Job Description:
The Interventional Radiology RN provides specialized nursing care for patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic radiology procedures. This role involves pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure monitoring, and post-procedure recovery while ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess, prepare, and educate patients before interventional radiology procedures.

• Assist physicians during procedures such as angiograms, biopsies, drain placements, stent insertions, and embolizations.

• Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, and patient status throughout the procedure.

• Administer moderate sedation, IV fluids, and medications as prescribed.

• Provide post-procedure recovery care, including monitoring for complications and ensuring safe discharge or transfer.

• Maintain sterile field and assist with instrument/equipment setup.

• Collaborate with physicians, radiology technologists, and other interdisciplinary team members.

• Document all aspects of care accurately in EMR.

• Ensure compliance with hospital safety, infection control, and radiology protocols.

Qualifications:

• Active RN license (state-specific, unrestricted).

• BLS and ACLS required; PALS preferred (facility-dependent).

• Minimum 1–2 years of critical care, PACU, or procedural nursing experience preferred.

• Strong knowledge of sedation protocols, hemodynamic monitoring, and emergency response.
