Job Description This position manages all activities including planning, organizing, and leading activities for children ages 5-11 at various assigned park sites. Site Lead staff will ensure weekly themes, sports, arts and crafts, and group games are carried out according to program expectations. The staff will lead one morning park and one afternoon park each day. The program dates are June 15 to August 8. Saturday, Aug 8th is an end-of-program carnival this position will be required to assist with. The schedule is Monday through Thursday (Friday is a half day for prep each week), 30-32 hours per week. Duties/Responsibilities Attend staff training prior to program start, June 11th and/or 12th. Plan, organize, and direct all activities at a specific park site in cooperation with program leaders and according to program expectations. Ensure all staff and program participants follow established policies and procedures at assigned sites. Prepare weekly calendar of activities and collect daily attendance reports with support of program leaders. Communicate regularly with Program Manager and Program Coordinators. Prepare, submit, and review all reports required for participants, staff, incidents, and property damage, submitting them to supervisor in a timely manner. Enforce all policies, rules, and regulations established by Program Manager and Hopkins-Minnetonka Recreation Services. Be physically active while on duty and participate in all group activities with participants. Attend and participate in all weekly staff meetings (tentatively Friday mornings). Ensure that safety precautions are taken in all activities. Be familiar with and carry out emergency and accident procedures. Set up and clean up activity area including building and grounds. Supervise participants using positive discipline while maintaining an informal, orderly, and safe atmosphere. Complete all other duties as assigned by Program Manager and Coordinators. Minimum Job Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be available the entire season with very limited time off requests. A commitment to and belief in the organization’s shared values. One (1) or more years of experience working or volunteering with children and youth (including planning and leading recreational activities with preschool and elementary age youth, physical activity, sports, indoor/outdoor games, team building, arts & crafts, etc.). One (1) or more years of direct leadership or supervisory experience with youth and/or peers. Ability to be creative and possess an assertive personality to plan, delegate, and implement activities. Ability to work and communicate with a wide variety of ages, including parents/guardians. Desired Job Qualifications One year’s supervisory experience among peers. One year or more of college and relevant coursework (e.g., education, recreation, etc.). Lesson planning experience. Experience working in community recreation or education programs. Understanding of child behavior, experience in recreational activities, and ability to relate with and supervise youth successfully.
