About the Position

Job Title: Emergency Room Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Emergency Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS; TNCC preferred Must-Have: 2 years of Emergency Room experience Description: Working in a fast-paced Emergency Room environment. No floating to other units required. No schedule changes will be entertained. Facility has 18 beds, including 3 trauma bays. Triage area is available, and travelers may work triage depending on experience. No separate holding area; holds are intermixed in the ER. ER nurses are responsible for managing their own ER holds. There are no separate psych/seclusion rooms but two safety rooms available for psych patients. In-house security available on weekends, with plans for 24/7 coverage. Average patient volume is 90 per day, with peaks reaching up to 140. Nurse-to-patient ratios depend on acuity but generally average 1:4-5. Common patient diagnoses include abdominal and back pain, lacerations, influenza, COVID-19, shortness of breath, chest pain, stroke/CVA, and trauma. Experience with common ER drips is required. Travel experience is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates must be able to multitask and keep pace in a high-acuity environment. Proficiency with IVs and drips is essential; ICU hold experience is preferred. Electronic Medical Record system in use. Both MDs and mid-level providers are available in-house during shifts. A charge nurse is present on each shift and will also take a patient assignment. Patient care technicians are available to assist with general duties. RNs are required to troubleshoot respiratory equipment. Telemetry monitors are available in every room except for safety rooms, and RNs must be able to read and interpret strips. Laboratory draws are performed by RNs and technicians. Self-scheduling is allowed with managerial approval. Every other weekend and holiday rotations are required. No floating between units is expected. Scrub color is Caribbean blue, with matching scrub jackets. A focus on customer service and patient satisfaction is essential. Cancellation policy allows for client-initiated cancellations of 2 shifts per contract. Charting is performed using a designated system.
