The position works four 10‑hour days per week with Friday as a required workday. Typical days off are Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, though the Monday day off may be adjusted based on departmental needs. Work hours are 6:00 am–4:30 pm. A company vehicle will be provided. General Summary The Facilities department ensures a safe, clean, and functional environment for faculty, staff, and students. Responsibilities include electrical service, installation, and repair of all equipment necessary for the proper operation of the college’s facilities. The role covers HVAC maintenance, motor control circuits, fire alarm systems, computer automation, material requisition planning, preventive maintenance, and equipment repairs. Duties Analyze, Perform, and Troubleshoot Equipment/Circuits Analyze electrical equipment and circuits—motors, VFDs, motor starters, lighting circuits, power distribution panels, fire alarm and security systems, door openers, emergency lighting, and related components. Perform preventive maintenance, including thermal imaging, tightening lugs, and resolving maintenance deficiencies. Provide monthly meter readings, adjust lighting timers, and maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of electrical codes. Follow PPE requirements for arc‑flash protection. Replace Lamps/Ballasts & Troubleshoot Walkways/Parking Lots Replace burned‑out lamps (fluorescent, incandescent, high‑pressure sodium, mercury vapor, metal halide) and ballasts. Repair buried walkway and parking lot wiring. Pursue energy‑efficient upgrade opportunities through XCEL Energy rebates. Control Equipment for Computerized Automation Systems Operate, program, troubleshoot, and install control equipment for HVAC and fire alarm systems. Install low‑voltage conduit and wiring for other computer equipment. Assist other departments with low‑voltage wiring issues, remove non‑rated wiring, run new circuits, and improve operational efficiency. Remodeling/Emergency Situations Design, fabricate, and install electrical circuits, lighting fixtures, and equipment for remodeling projects. Develop from blueprints, install computer line conditioners and isolation circuits, and ensure compliance with NFPA and other building codes. Review construction documents, provide recommendations, and respond to after‑hours emergencies, assisting fire department and emergency crews as required. Preventive Maintenance Conduct preventive maintenance by inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting motor starters, VFDs, motor control circuits, lighting, door openers, and computer automation systems. Minimum Requirements Current, valid journeyman electrician license issued by the Colorado Electrical Board Clear demonstration of experience and qualifications in the responsibilities listed above Required Competencies Customer Service : Respond and interact with customers, analyze root causes, and correct problems. Communication : Communicate with campus stakeholders and coworkers regarding daily tasks. Critical Thinking : Use logic and reasoning to evaluate solutions, conclusions, and approaches. Design : Apply design techniques, tools, and principles for technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models. Maintenance : Inspect, clean, and adjust motor starters, VFDs, motor control circuits, lighting, door openers, and automation systems; install conduit and pull insulated cables. Time Management : Organize, plan, and prioritize work; monitor processes and materials. Technology : Utilize construction software, CAD, industrial control software, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook). Building and Construction : Knowledge of materials, methods, and tools for constructing or repairing buildings. Mechanical : Knowledge of machines and tools, including design, use, repair, and maintenance. Special Requirements & Conditions of Employment Must successfully complete a pre‑employment background check, including a motor vehicle record. Must possess and maintain a current, valid State of Colorado Driver’s License to operate company vehicles. NOTE: Physical requirements include occasional exertion of up to 100 lbs of force, frequent exertion of up to 50 lbs, and constant exertion of up to 20 lbs for lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
