Production Manager / General Superintendent

Job Description

Job Description

Production Manager – Remodeling

About the Opportunity

A remodeling contractor that self-performs its carpentry and window work is looking for the leader who will take its field operations to the highest level.

The company already has good lead carpenters in the field. What it needs now is someone with deep build knowledge and real people-leadership experience to mentor them, raise the standard on every job, and develop them into self-starters who can run projects with minimal supervision.

This is a role for someone who wants to grow with a company, not just run its jobs. For the right person, there is real opportunity here.

Role Summary

You'll own field production across 6–10+ concurrent projects ranging from $200K to $2M. About 80–90% of the role is leading people: keeping multiple crews coordinated, accountable, and moving in the same direction. The other 10–20% is hands-on, so you'll still put your tools on when the work calls for it.

What You'll Get to Accomplish

• Raise the company's field operations to a higher standard of execution across every active job
• Develop lead carpenters into self-starters who run their projects with minimal supervision
• Oversee production on 6–10+ remodeling projects at once, ranging from $200K to $2M
• Lead the self-performed carpentry and window work
• Set the example in the field by staying hands-on 10–20% of the time

What You'll Bring

• Extensive remodeling experience. This is the background most likely to succeed here.
• Deep, practical build knowledge
• A proven track record managing field teams and multiple projects at once
• Experience training and mentoring carpenters or lead carpenters
• A desire to grow with a company over the long term
• Preferred: Design-build background

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

• Leadership with impact: You'll shape how the entire field operation runs, not just a single job.
• A team worth developing: The lead carpenters are capable and ready for the kind of mentorship that will take them to the next level.
• Long-term upside: Leadership is looking for someone to grow with the company, and there is real opportunity for the right person.

Compensation & Benefits

• $150,000–$175,000 base salary
• Company truck
• The company's standard benefits package

Candidates must bring substantial remodeling experience and a proven record of leading and developing field teams to be considered.

Information Worth Confirming

1. Job title: Matt's notes don't name one. Should it be "Production Manager," "Director of Field Operations," or something else?
2. Location: No location is in the notes. Where are the projects?
3. Project type: Is the work residential remodeling only? What scope does it cover, such as kitchens and baths, additions, or whole-home?
4. Does the client do design-build? The notes only list it as a candidate preference. If the company does design-build, the posting gets stronger.
5. $200K stretch: Should this be public, or kept for screening calls only?
6. Ownership potential: Should the posting mention it, or should it be held for live conversations?
7. Benefits: Which specifics can we list, such as health, 401(k), and PTO?
8. Reporting line: Does this role report to the owner?

Key Notes (internal only, not in the posting)

• Client name omitted: "415" is left out per the SOP's anonymity rule.
• Bonus: It's possible for an exceptional hire but must not be pitched as guaranteed, so it's excluded from the posting.
• Comp ceiling: The client could stretch to $200K for the right candidate.
• Ownership: A future ownership path is possible if the candidate is young and exceptional. Use it as a closing lever, not a promise.
• Benchmark: The target has Scott Enge's level of build knowledge plus more people-management experience.
• Target profile: The client named Harrell Remodeling's head of production, who has about 20 years there. The client doesn't think he's gettable because he's high up in their ESOP, but he's the model to source against.
• Confidential: The client is willing to restructure the current field team for the right hire. Don't disclose this.
• Language: "Rockstar" and "wizard" were translated into professional language per SOP style rules.
