Counsel, Auto PD Claims Strategy & Partnerships

Recruiting for P&C Claims Legal, Property Center of Excellence at Nationwide, a Fortune 100 insurance company. Position may be remote within the United States, but preference for a primary Nationwide office in Columbus, OH; Des Moines, IA; or Scottsdale, AZ with a hybrid option. Responsibilities Act as strategic legal advisor and thought partner to auto, powersports, and RV business, supporting complex, project‑specific initiatives within the physical damage and repair ecosystem. Provide subject matter expertise for high‑risk or complex legal matters related to physical damage repair claims and processes, attending business partner meetings to understand needs. Translate complex legal considerations into practical, claim business‑forward solutions. Deliver difficult messages or news and challenge business leaders when necessary; respond to challenges to advice and counsel directly and effectively. Assess potential legal risks in ambiguous, novel, highly complex scenarios, advise on possible outcomes, and inform leaders of case law and new legislation. Maintain frequent, routine collaboration and conversations with business partners, emphasizing practical, relationship‑driven support. Qualifications Experience advising on auto physical damage claims programs at an enterprise or multi‑jurisdictional level, including total loss, labor rate, rental/loss of use, parts utilization, managed repair or vendor networks. Comfort operating in a highly collaborative, business‑embedded environment and supporting strategic, enhancement or innovation initiatives. JD from an American Bar Association‑accredited law school; fully licensed in all practicing jurisdictions. Six or more years of relevant legal experience with demonstrated business knowledge. Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to interpret statutes, regulations, insurance policies and contracts. Experience leading complex or strategic matters, advising senior leaders, and managing risk‑mitigation strategies. Optional supervisory experience with a small team.
