About Your Role The Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) Construction Inspector provides onsite construction inspection, quality assurance, documentation, and field coordination services in support of the new Air Traffic Control Tower and associated infrastructure at Tampa International Airport. The Construction Inspector will monitor construction activities for compliance with approved plans, specifications, contract documents, applicable codes, FAA requirements, HCAA standards, and approved quality requirements. The position requires experience working on complex vertical construction projects, preferably within active airport or FAA environments. Education Requirements Bachelor's Degree required. Required Certifications OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Certification. Valid Driver's License. Ability to obtain and maintain required HCAA/TPA security credentials and airport identification badge. Preferred Certifications FAA-related construction inspection or airport construction training. ICC Commercial Building Inspector or applicable ICC inspection certification. NICET certification applicable to assigned systems. AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), where applicable. ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician. CTQP certifications applicable to civil/site work. Certified Construction Manager (CCM). What You'll Need to Get the Job Done Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible construction inspection experience on major commercial, institutional, aviation, transportation, or infrastructure projects. Demonstrated experience inspecting vertical construction and associated civil/site improvements. Experience reviewing construction activities for compliance with plans, specifications, approved submittals, and contract requirements. Ability to read and interpret architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and specialty-system drawings. Experience preparing daily inspection reports, photographic documentation, deficiency reports, and construction records. Experience working with contractors, subcontractors, project managers, engineers, architects, and owner representatives. Ability to work onsite at Tampa International Airport and within an active airport construction environment. What Will Make You Stand Out Previous construction inspection experience involving an FAA Air Traffic Control Tower or other FAA facility. Experience with airport terminal, airside, tower, or other aviation facilities. Experience working within an active Air Operations Area (AOA). Familiarity with FAA construction requirements and coordination procedures. Experience inspecting high-rise or technically complex vertical structures. Experience with structural steel, concrete, building envelope, elevators, life-safety systems, MEP systems, communications, and specialty systems. Previous experience with HCAA or another major commercial airport. What You'll Do Perform daily onsite inspection of construction activities. Verify construction conforms to approved plans, specifications, contract requirements, approved submittals, and applicable standards. Monitor contractor workmanship, materials, installation methods, and construction sequencing. Document daily construction activities, workforce, equipment, weather conditions, progress, and observed deficiencies. Review contractor activities for compliance with approved quality control plans. Coordinate inspection activities with HCAA representatives, project managers, engineers, designers, contractors, and other consultants. Identify potential nonconforming work and immediately communicate concerns to project leadership. Track deficiencies, corrective actions, punch-list items, and resolution. Witness testing and inspections as required. Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and field modifications as they relate to inspection activities. Assist with progress verification and contractor payment documentation. Monitor construction activities for potential impacts to airport operations and adjacent facilities. Participate in construction progress, quality, safety, and coordination meetings. Support substantial completion, final inspection, commissioning, turnover, and project closeout activities. Maintain complete and accurate inspection documentation for the project record. Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
