Substation Electrician

Responsibilities Maintain, test, inspect, install, remove, and operate substation high voltage conversion and distribution equipment. Work with 12 kV AC switchgear, 4 kV AC light and power switchgear, 2.3 kV AC signal switchgear, 1500 V DC rectifiers and switchgear, high voltage transformers, motor‑operated overhead disconnect switches, vacuum contactors, and computer‑based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition equipment. Perform paperwork, inventory management and vehicle and tool maintenance related to the position. Perform other related duties as needed to meet the organization’s ongoing needs. Qualifications Journeyman Electrician with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in conversion substation or utility substation maintenance. Proficient in interpreting substation one‑line and switchgear schematic diagrams. Strong troubleshooting background. Computer hardware and software background. Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials weighing up to 75 pounds; up to 150 pounds with assistance. Must pass Metra’s Roadway Worker rules within 30 days of hire. Valid driver’s license. Preferred Knowledgeable in maintaining SCADA equipment. Union position. Starting pay rates may vary based on entry rates in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
