Manager Trainee

Overview Manager Trainee – Supply Chain, Ridgefield, Washington. Full-time position under general supervision aimed at developing management skills for a small driver count and non-traditional shifts (including nights and weekends). Responsibilities include ensuring safe and timely movement of freight, load assignment, compliance with DOT regulations, and maintaining company safety standards while coordinating with internal and external contacts. Key Responsibilities Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and safe, reliable outside carriers to ensure seamless new carrier setup, minimize turnover, and maximize ongoing productivity. Fill in for absent or unavailable personnel and participate in special projects related to optimizing fleet operations and profitability. Train and orient drivers and/or employees, including training and assistance with internal and third-party (customer) systems. Maximize efficiency of fleet operations; provide recommendations for continuous improvement; measure key performance indicators; create, maintain, and present customer-specific reporting and financial analysis through face-to-face interactions at customer locations. Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and/or assignment of drivers to balance equipment in the market. Perform administrative duties such as payroll, management of the net-revenue budget, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing and documentation, resolving pay issues, analyzing P&L statements, invoicing, and creating operational or financial reports. Manage yard activities including equipment inspection, part replacement (e.g., mud flaps), repairs, and coordinating with maintenance to schedule preventative maintenance and fix safety-related mechanical issues as required. Work with drivers, customers, and company personnel to resolve service issues, routing/planning, mechanical problems, accessorial pay issues, and related items as they arise; provide on-call support when necessary. Maintain the company’s safety culture with daily driver safety messages, monthly safety briefings, quarterly driver training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance and safety policies. Assign loads and plan, route, and monitor freight movement to meet customer requirements, including managing freight exceptions and ETA adjustments based on pickup/delivery schedules and road conditions. Qualifications Minimum Qualification: High School Diploma/GED with up to 4 years of equivalent education, experience, and training; and/or enrolled in a degree program with up to 2 years of study; and/or Bachelor’s degree with ability to work across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends. Must be willing to travel to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable. Preferred Qualification: Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of related experience or equivalent. Identify and resolve organizational, operational, or process problems. Compensation & Benefits The expected starting pay is between $42,000 and $63,000. Compensation may be affected by skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes, per applicable company plans.
