Essential/Primary Functions of the Job: 1. Responsible for the total nursing care of residents 2. Follows standards of nursing practice, policies and procedures related to medications, documentation, treatments and resident care 3. Administers medications in an accurate and timely fashion 4. Monitors residents for effectiveness of medications 5. Educates residents when indicated for information concerning medications 6. Documents related information covering medications 7. Verifies accuracy of the narcotic count and key exchange 8. Orders, receives and stores medications accurately and appropriately 9. Administers treatment and wound care as ordered using appropriate infection control techniques 10. Accurately documents treatments and/or wound care given 11. Maintains a clean, safe and HIPAA secure medication and treatment cart 12. Identifies nursing problems and emergency situations, and acts quickly and appropriately 13. Provides supervision to the CNAs when needed 14. Uses the resident care plans to assure quality care is given 15. Performs basic nursing skills 16. Provides direct resident care when needed 17. Answers call bells 18. Assists with admissions and discharges 19. Administers tube feedings and IV fluids as ordered following policy and procedure 20. Documents accurately tube feedings and IVs 21. Maintains a professional attitude and respect toward others 22. Follows infection control and safety policies and procedures 23. Attends required educational programs within the facility 24. Follows BHNRC's Corporate Compliance Regulations 25. Carries out other duties as assigned Equipment to be Used: General office equipment, basic nursing equipment, medication cart, treatment cart and supplies, rehabilitation equipment, syringes, O2 equipment, suction machines, medication and pill accessories, tube feeding equipment, pumps, IV equipment, nebulizers, mechanical lifts, enema equipment, otoscopes, beds, scales, bed and chair alarms, key pads for alarms, lift devices, pulse O2 units, restraints, gait belts, glucose monitors, tracheotomies and supplies, ostomy products, urinary catheters and bags, infection control equipment, fire equipment and alarms, and other equipment that is required for the care of residents in a long term care facility. Mental and Physical Requirements: Full range of motion including handling and lifting of residents, manual finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, standing and sitting for extended periods of time, ability to ascend and descend two flights of stairs, no restrictions in weight lifting, vision and hearing to normal range, ability to communicate orally and in writing, written skills above average, and able to do simple math and analyze complex information. Working Conditions: Work is performed on the nursing unit with other staff, residents and families. Some exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, medical preparations and other conditions of a clinical environment in long term care.
