Maintenance Mechanic

MachinistThe Bay Area News Group is currently seeking an experienced Machinist to work in a team-based, self-managing environment at our Concord facility, ensuring equipment is well-maintained to produce high-quality products on time and within budget.What You Will Do:Monitor and troubleshoot newspaper production equipment during operation to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement; and repair faulty equipment or systemsWork with chemicals to clean and prepare machinery for repairs and machiningPerform basic repairs and maintenance offline, and emergency repairs under deadline pressureClean up tasks on press, warehouse, auxiliary equipment as necessary, including daily, weekly and monthly preventive maintenance tasksElectronic or mechanical devices including tools, hardware, software and other equipment used in the performance of the essential functions of this position include the following: unit control panels, advanced press control systems, calibration equipment, precision measuring equipment, basic hand tools, variety of machine shop tools, PCs and database program entry, and forklift/clamp truckWork night, weekend and holiday shifts as required; regular and reliable attendance is a necessary element of this jobWhat You Will Bring:Experience with welding and the ability to read a micrometer is helpfulMust be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and work within deadlinesExcellent oral and written communication skills with multiple levels of management and across teamsComfortable working with PC's and computer driven equipmentAbility to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with excellent time management skillsHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) requiredTwo years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic or Machinist on production equipment preferredWork Environment:This job operates in a printing plant environment. The printing plant environment is well-lit. Working areas may be tight, small and below machinery.Exposure to chemicals, loud noise, dust, and moving parts, requiring strict adherence to safety practices and use of appropriate PPERoutine use of forklifts, ladders, tools, and industrial equipment, as well as standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiersThis is not a remote position. The employee will report to our Concord, CA printing plantBenefits and Compensation:The hourly range is $28.00 - $31.00.
