Key Responsibilities of the Physical Therapist

• Verify physician orders prior to evaluation
• Evaluate patients before administering treatments, considering psychological and physical issues
• Collaborate to complete evaluations and establish goals and care plans
• Administer and direct physical therapy treatments and modalities
• Communicate treatment procedures and equipment use to patients and families
• Apply or supervise appropriate treatments or modalities
• Observe treatment effects and recommend changes if needed
• Organize and explain home programs for patients
• Direct and oversee PT Assistants during treatments
• Maintain records of all patient treatments
• Complete discharge summaries as needed
• Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities

Requirements of the Physical Therapist

• Current New Mexico Physical Therapist licensure
• BLS certification from AHA required
• Doctorate, Masters, Bachelors, or Associates Degree in Physical Therapy
• Strong skills in assessment, evaluation, decision-making, and time management
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
