Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)Schedule: 7 hours per day; 143 days per year. Documents to be uploaded with this application: Resume; Copy of college transcripts and registration; Copy of License Salary: $56,181 - $75,837 per year.Elkhart Community SchoolsImplement therapeutic activities to assist special education students in benefiting from their educational experiences at the recommendation of the Occupational Therapist.Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Other duties may be assigned):Administer and interpret tests and measurements by the report/IEP deadline.Implement classroom and home-based therapy programs to address IEP goals.Requisition equipment and supplies needed to provide treatment in each classroom and supervise the maintenance and location of therapy equipment.Schedule collaborative or direct therapy, as deemed necessary by the occupational therapist as directed by the case conference committee.Use appropriate therapeutic interventions specific to the individual's needs. This may include:Addressing the following domains: self-help, functional mobility, sensory processing, motor functions and pre-vocation/vocational skills;Adapt equipment;Refer families to area vendors;Provide access to assistive technology;Adapt the learning/physical environment;Collaborate with teachers and paraprofessionals to provide appropriate carryover experiences so that the therapy program improves the functional capacity of the child in the classroom.Maintain complete and accurate records.Enter Medicaid billing information accurately and by deadlines throughout the school year.Comply with all school regulations and directions issued by the administrative staff.Maintain a personal appearance in keeping with the nature of the job responsibility.Participate as a multidisciplinary team member in staff and committee meetings.Prepare for parent conferences and staff meetings.Develop and maintain effective interpersonal relationships with the staff, parents and physicians and other agencies.Make proper arrangements for use of school equipment and space.Maintain confidentiality in all matters, specifically those matters relating to student records and data.Acquire knowledge regarding current theory and treatment techniques.Exhibit a pattern of regular and timely attendance.Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Exceptional Learners or designee.Terms of Employment: Salary and fringe benefits as per board policy.Evaluation Process: The Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant will be evaluated annually by the Assistant Superintendent of Exceptional Learners.Qualifications Required: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Ability to write procedures for employees and communications to employees. Ability to speak effectively before parents, staff and students.Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program; ability to plan and implement evaluation services based on school objectives and the needs and abilities of referred students. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is continuously required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; operate computers and other office machines and equipment; reach with arms and hands; talk and hear on the telephone and in other interactions. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 20 pounds.
